• New Special Editions

Hi all! Nice new offer with the New Special Editions! I have just two questions. 1st) I am missing the Con Sordino Orchestral Strings, are they available somewhere? 2nd) Will there be some Discounts (E.g.: when buying Volume 4, will I get the Choir Full discounted later on) Thx Romantic

  •  Hi Romantic,

Con Sordino Orchestral Strings are part of the "SE Volume 1 PLUS" collection, and yes there is a discount of 50 € upgrading to Vienna Choir when you have SE Volume 4 registered.

  • Thank you Herb!

  • So I see there are SE library updates.  I purchased the SE and SE+ standard libraries a few months ago which to my understanding is now SE vol.1 and SE vol1 Plus.  So would I download and install these new updates?

  • I discussed some of this with a VSL person here:
    http://community.vsl.co.at/forums/t/32131.aspx

Apparently, the samples in SE Vol. 1 are exactly the same as SE Standard, so there's no benefit from downloading in that regard. I didn't ask about SE Vol. 1 Plus. A benefit to downloading though is that the data for the old Standard and Extended libraries is no longer inseparable. So, if you don't have the old Extended versions, and if you download the new editions and delete the old ones, that should free up a lot of disk space while giving you the same samples. I was also told that replacing the packages in this way shouldn't be a problem in existing VE/VI projects.

  • Hello

Considering all the instuments I have already bought what Special Editions 3 and 4 are bringing to me ?

If I look at SE 3, as I own already Appassionata solo strings why I do not get a discount ? so I can have the con sordino ?

    Hello Cyril,

If you take a look at our upgrade paths, you will see that upgrade discounts are only possible if you UPgrade FROM the Special Editions to either the big DVD Collections, to the Single Instrument Downloads or from Special Edition Sections to complete Collections. If registered users of DVD Collections go to the Special Editions, this is rather a DOWNgrade than an UPgrade, because the DVD Collections offer more articulations per instrument. I'm afraid this means that discounts are not possible in this case.

If you've got more questions about your specific situation, it might be better to write an email to . [;)]

  • Hi Cyril,

You're right, we're currently having a small problem with our forum that results in the error message that you mentioned - however the posting will be made, so don't worry that any messages will be lost. [:)]

Our IT team is already looking into this issue, but they're also busy with the changes that the new Special Editions and the renaming of the products brought with them, that's why there has been a delay here. I'm sure this problem will be addressed soon.

    Best,

    Stefan

This is not perfectly true, at least not as an answer to the original question.

In the SE Vol.3 you have the „classic“ set of string-articulations: Staccato, détaché, sustained, sforzato, Legato, portamento, Tremolo and pizzicato for muted appassionata, chamber and solo strings, as well as for unmuted appassionatas. Those are all articulations which have been missing so far in the SE (except for the two demo snippets of the app.)

The con sord. in the Vol.1 Plus have always been there (in the SE+), but limited to staccato, sustain and tremolo. Especially the missing legato patches make them more a kind of a demo.

  • Hi, maybe interested in the SE vol III, but it's not clear what articulations are included (normal and extended).

    Thanks

  • Hi guys, Excited about this SE Vol. III that I'll be picking up. Hope that you will SOON be doing also a Vol. III + (with harmonics, trills, etc.). I'd buy that also !!

I'm in a similar boat as you, Cyril. I must admit I've wanted to add more to my VSL collection as I love the company, but I feel stuck. I know VSL offers great upgrade pricing to the larger boxed products FROM Special Editions, but unfortunately I had already purchased the full versions of the Appassionata Strings, Solo Strings, Chamber Strings BEFORE I purchased SE, so I was unable to get any of the upgrade discounts. (I later added the Harps package and Flugelhorn). This is a problem for me, as it looks like there is a lot of overlap between the Special edition packages and what I already own! A great example is the new SE vol 3, in which I seem to already own much is what is offered EXCEPT the con sordino patches. It seems silly to pay 325 euros as less then half of the library will actually provide me with new samples.

So on the sidelines I sit, slowly aquiring other companies libraries that offer me 100% new products for the price. I simply cannot justify paying for the same samples twice.

I'm looking at the upgrades paths chart and what it doesn't show is what discount each SE library would give you when you purchase the cube's extended library. Could you please tell me what those discounts would be? Perhaps you should upgrade the chart to make it clear as I'm sure a lot of people buy SE products with the goal of eventually buying the cube.

Cube is superior to SE, this is why you don't have downgrade path [H]

  •  Maybe this infos are helpful:

    http://www.vsl.co.at/en/211/261/2124/2245/1917.vsl

The displayed discounts to the DVD collections are always the same, purchasing them individually or as an bundle like the Symphonic Cube.

You just have to make a summary of all DVD collection which are part of the Cube.
