  • New Special Editions Nice, But Had Just Bought Old One...

    ugh...

I bought SE Standard from Musician's Friend a few weeks ago. It's still listed there for $420; it was a bit less with one of their discount offers. Now I see SE Vol. 1 to download for 310 (dollars, Euros?). Life...

Couple questions as I see what recourse I have, if any:

    * Can VSL address this, or is my only option to go back to Musician's Friend?

    * The SE Vol. 1 description says it's 32gb. The SE Standard I recently bought is 58gb. I understood that was because it actually installed the Extended library as well, even though I can't access it. I just want to confirm that they've changed the way this works, and new SE Vol. 1 is exactly the same as old SE Standard?

    * Are there any issues if I can return the old and buy the new, like with work I've already done? For example, I have VE templates I created and started refining. If the library is replaced, will the templates recognize the new patches as identical to the old and load them correctly into the various VI matrices?

    Thanks!!

    Hi Eggsalad,

    Sorry to hear about that.

I'm afraid that you're indeed confusing currencies here, we're selling the Special Edition in Euros only now in our web shop, since it's a download order (you can opt in for an additional USB stick) that we process directly from Vienna now. So the 310 that you mention are Euros, not US dollars.

Also, you wrote that you got the product with a discount, so I hope that the deal you got yourself wasn't that bad. [:)]

Generally, a return with an already registered serial number and license download is rather complicated, so it I'd recommend to find another solution with Musician's Friend.

If you feel that you'd like to return your purchased Special Edition Volume 1 (formerly: Special Edition Standard Library), I'm afraid that you'll have to go to the dealer that you ordered from, there's nothing we can do on our end here. Note that you will also have to return your eLicenser USB key that holds the license. Only after we have checked that the complete product has been returned (including the key with the license), you can receive a refund from your dealer.

Regarding your other questions, I confirm that the Special Edition Vol. 1 is exactly the same as the Special Edition Standard Library - only the name is new.

    This will be no problem.

    Kind regards,

    Stefan

  • Thanks for the fast reply!

So if it's Euros, the price difference might be small. I haven't bought any download products from you. Out of curiosity, how does that work: VSL doesn't accept dollars, so the currency exchange is handled by the customer's credit card?

Returning SE Standard as you describe seems like a big hassle (but seemingly not as big as if I had other licenses on the Vienna Key I wanted to keep). That's good that the samples are identical to those in SE Vol. 1, however am I correct that Vol. 1 is 26gb smaller? If so, that's reason enough to look into replacing it. Or, maybe VSL has thought about this and there's a way now to remove the unused SE Standard samples?

    Thanks again!

    Hello Eggsalad,

    You're welcome.
I'll go straight to your questions:

[quote=Eggsalad]Out of curiosity, how does that work: VSL doesn't accept dollars, so the currency exchange is handled by the customer's credit card?

Yes, that's exactly how it works.

[quote=Eggsalad]however am I correct that Vol. 1 is 26gb smaller?

    Yes.

[quote=Eggsalad]maybe VSL has thought about this and there's a way now to remove the unused SE Standard samples?

If you download the 31.5 GB sample content of the Special Edition Volume 1 which is available here, you can remove the samples that you installed from DVD which include Standard and Extended Library, i.e., Volume 1 and 2. 😊

    Best,

    Stefan

  • Hey that's great, and I guess it knows the license is the same.

    Thanks again!
