  • DVD instruments vs download instruments

I'm sorry if this is the hundredth time someone asks this, but are the downloadable single instruments identical to the corresponding instruments in the DVD collections or do they lack even any smallest parts of information like some velocity layers or some notes in the high or low end of ranges? Anything at all? If they do have any shortcomings, would it be somehow possible to see the library manuals for DVD collections that one don't yet own so one could compare the smallest details of information between these libraries?

  •  Hi Sami,

the Full versions of the Download Instruments are perfect clones of the DVD collection instruments. So you won't miss anything.

  • Thank you very much for the quick answer, Herb.

  •  Be carful with the brass collections though, as the DVDs offer some muted/stopped instruments not available for download.  It's always a good idea to study the sample content before deciding which route to go.

  • I thought that some of the patches have less velocity layers than the corresponding DVD versions. Herb also wrote (in 2008) that the download instruments use wholetone samples. Am I wrong? Has this been changed?

  • As I wrote the FULL Download versions are clones of the DVD instruments. In 2008 just standard Download instruments were available.

Regarding Muted Brass instruments; these are seperate instruments and are listed as individual instruments in the VI browser.

It's correct that these instrument are not released as download versions so far. But they will be available soon.

  • A last question concerning this subject. I understood: The FULL download libraries are identical to their DVD counterparts. The STANDARD libraries may contain less velocity layers and are wholetone mapped(????), right? If this is true I'm a little curious about the samples content. For example: The Woodwinds DVD collections has 26624 samples. The corresponding download instruments contain a sum of 24603 samples (only 2000 samples less). Do you download the semitone samples with the standard download instrument and they are just not available?

  • That's correct. The Standard Single Download Instruments versions are slightly reduced compared to the DVD collections.

Primary the "Short + Long Notes" are reduced regarding chromatic versus whole note mappings. The patches which are holding the biggest amount of samples, like the performance-legati are identical. Therfor the difference of sample count is not that big.

The Full Single Download Instruments version are perfect clones of the Full versions of the DVD collections as I already mentioned in this thread. When you purchase the Full versions you get access of a dedicated database which hold all samples (Standard and Extended).

That means you can delete you former "Standard only" versions content when you have upgraded to the Full versions.
