  • Replacing an i7-2600K with an I7-3930K (6 cores)...

EDIT : what about  2 x xeon 2620 versus I7-2600k?  The xeon 2620 is CLOCKED AT 2.5 ghz...  Is that a problem?

    Hello!

I use Mir Pro with a lot of instruments of VSL.  My i7-2600k is a little bit short for some templates and projects.  It is overclocked to

4.4GHZ.  I don't want to wait next year for the Haswell 8 cores,  and I find that Xeon proessors cost too much money...  My memory RAM is not a problem (32 GB).

A solution for me would be to switch it for a Sandy Bridge i7-3930K (6 cores/12 with with HT),  which I would overclock too.  Do you think that I would have a significant gain of performance with this?

    Thank you for your time,

    Vincent

  • I'm ready to command.  [:D]

Do the VSL team have an answer about my question?  How much more instruments should I be able to operate in Mir Pro versus an i7-2600k?

    Thank you for your time,

    Vincent

  • It might be a good idea to check benchmarks for various chips for different audio projects.  The problem is, those benchmarks do not test MIR/MIR Pro, but general projects in various DAWs.  Those benchmarks might give you at least a rough idea of what you might expect.

For those other applications, it appears that an i7 3960x at 3.33GHz provides roughly 50% more cpu power than an i7 2600 at 3.4GHz.  Obviously, those are not the chips you are seeking to compare, nor your clocking speeds, but that was about the closest I could find compared to what you are looking for (benchmarks at ADK's website).

Perhaps that information will help, though perhaps not.

  • Hi Vincent,

We didn't test the new i7 CPU's yet. But they look very good. In comparison to the i7 2600 they have 4 memory channels instead of 2 which is very helpfull with MIRPRO and of course 2 processors more. When it comes to MIRPRO more power is always good. Do you have processor problems with your 2600 or do you get crackles before the cpu reaches about 95%?

  •  Hello Air and noldar,  thank you for you help,  it's very appreciated.

    I don't have any glitch until I reach 95-100%.

I will buy this processor very soon,  and I will report you the gain it gives me VS the 2600K.  Have a good day!
