Move VSL to another computer and share screen and sound?

I would like to tap into the expertise here.  I presently use an older iMac to run Logic as my DAW, and use a Mac Mini to house the VSL samples.  Using VE Pro and the screen sharing feature of Mac OS X 10.6, I am able to control both computers; sound emerges from the iMac.

I am considering purchasing an ADDITIONAL 4 core mini and moving Logic and all associated software (including VE Pro) to the new machine, and controlling BOTH mini machines through screen sharing (or possibly another Apple application called Apple Remote Control).  This would increase computational power on the new mini, as well as increase RAM memory, which can go up to 16 GB with third party memory.  It looks as though it is fairly easy to transfer Logic and the VSL applications to the new machine (provided the associated dongle is transferred as well), but I am stumped as to how to transmit the SOUND from the new machine now housing Logic.  It seems the only solution is to connect my speakers to the new Mac Mini, as I cannot transmit sound to the iMac without purchasing some type of external audio interface that would run between the the iMac and the new Mac mini.  Plan B would be to purchase a new display along with the new mini and sell the iMac.

Any thoughts?

Steve

I don't even know if VEP will send audio to anything other than via the LAN connection back to the DAW host. ...

The slave is going to be handling probably the heavier lifting so if your older machine is a little less robust it's the more suitable for master (unless you're dealing with more audio and FX on that end, than soft insts or something). You're trying to force a complicated config. in place of the simple and elegant way it's made to work, really, and I can't see to what advantage.

If you have Logic and use Network Midi** on the master and  standalone VEP on the slave, it will be the slave that will play the audio from VSL. You can then plug the audio out of the slave* to the audio in of the master or put the 2 x audio out* on a mixer !

it is better to use  the lightpipe in and out of the Mac

** see "Audio Midi" / Midi studio / Network

Thanks for the suggestions.  It sounds like I would be going down of worm hole if I tried it.  Better to sell the iMac and purchase a new display to go with the new Mini.  I couldn't figure how to get sounds from Logic in the slave running it into my iMac NOT running Logic.

Thanks again Cyril and Civ.

You can have you Imac running Logic and Screen sharing and both of your Macmini running VEP and others

If you still have power left on you Imac you can play a few instruments on it

You do not need a fast Mac to run Logic but you need one for VEP and others
