Hi there,
If this is covered in another thread, could you please direct me there.

I have the Kontakt3 VSL library as well as the IK Philharmonik plugin.
Can anyone help me, guide me as to how to do a proper sounding Gliss on
strings. Everything I try, sounds like a synth.

Thank you very much.

Hello Carmine,

The best bet is to use sampled glissandos. I´d say it´s very close to impossible to generate such an effect artificially.

Yes, the reason it sounds like a synth is because all the formants, harmonics, etc. are sliding in the exact same pitch shift as the fundamental note which never happens in reality.  So it has to be done with samples of glissando.  People are trying to do it with digital control that morphs various parts of the waveform differentially but that is still very artificial sounding compared to a simple straight recording of a glissando.

The Appassionata strings all have built into them instantly switchable real portamento that can be used for many glissando effects simply by using A or B on keyswitch.  The most extreme glissando - slower ones - have also been sampled throughout the various string sections as separate articulations.
