  • Is Cubase needed?

Hey Gang, Just want to make sure I'm not over-looking something... Just getting into computer sequencing. Long time MPC user. Just installed demo versions of VE Pro and Cubase. But it seems like (for midi), VE Pro and my MPC may be all I need. Or am I missing some important points? I love Cubase but I'm sure somebody out there makes a good stand-alone VST host for far less than 500 bucks. Or am I missing something? Not trying to do audio of any kind. Just want to record/edit midi and load my VST instruments and effects. But, I would hate to get down the line and wish I had got Cubase while I had the money. I mean, computers are better in the long-run over hardware sequencers right? Or, am I missing something? Anybody been through this delimma? -mike

  • Hi mike,

I think that you´ll be well off with VE PRO. Use the demo version to see if all plug-ins you need work and respond the way you like them to.

If you don´t need a sequencer, VE PRO is actually a great choice.

    Best,

  • Cubase is dramatically more powerful than that box for midi editing. Artist 6 is around $225 I think, hell of a pkg.

  • If you are lookig for a cheap Sequencer to use with VEpro, check out Studio One v2.

The Producer version is pretty low on cost and supports VST3 so you get the most out of VEpro.
And its fast, looks ok and have most features one would need.

It might not be the cheapest or best sequencer out the, but for the price its very good.
And in my oppinion, its easy to get in to if you are comming from Cubase.

I think its under $250 for the Producer version. http://studioone.presonus.com/what-are-the-versions/

And its growing fast, great community and they are quick with updates and have tonns of videos with tutorials and tips.

EDIT: As civilzation 3 said, Cubase Artist is a good purchase aswell, and you can always upgrade to a better version of Cubase later if you need/want to.

  • Hey Guys, Thanks for the suggestions. Been using VE Pro for about a week now and for me, it (along with my mpc) is doing everything I need. what a heck of a program!
