MIR - possible to have sounds move from back to front?

Hello,

I was wondering if its possible to have sounds move from back to front? For example, a sound of someone walking from the back of the hall to the front? I'm assuming the answer is no, since its convolution based, but thought I'd ask first before making assumptions. :)

HI Jon, 

If you have a REALLY fast computer, it is possible to move instruments (of course only within the range of the hotspots!) without getting any artefacts. This doesn´t work reliably all the time, as MIR PRO is not designed for this task, we actually thought of seated musicians [:)]

Why don´t you try with the demo license of MIR PRO 24 that you just ordered? The Konzerthaus Foyer could be a good place to start.

No automation possible (this is not what MIR PRO was designed for, as I wrote). 

You drag the instrument from one place to another while playing back.

I understand your point of view if you use Mir only for classical music.

Nowdays VSL and MIR are used for Film music, and nowdays most of the film music are in 5,1 or 7.1 so we need to have some instruments, mostly Audio Input instruments that we could move in the venue

May be the solution will be to have a 5.1 or 7.1 Audio input for audio effects so all the panning will be done by the DAW

So it will be great if you could think to add that in next version of MIR PRO

Today's computers are simply not powerful enough to handle thousands of convolution in real-time. MIR overcomes this limitation with its unique positional IR pre-rendering. Pre-rendering means that a certain amount of time is needed to compute the IR-data for each new setting of each instrument (position, rotation, directivity, stereo width, Main and Secondary Microphone setup). Obviously you can't do this for a constantly moving signal source, otherwise we would have included this option from the very beginning. That's even more true when a multitude of signals should move at the same time.

In other words: MIR Pro in its current form can't and won't offer automatable Icon position changes.

It is a DIY solution.

VSL could implement a 5.1 or a 7.1 Audio input !

you seem to have that 'point 1' part of 5.1 as some kind of magic. it is true that marketing of home surround speaker sytems sells the subwoofer as necessary for the movement of say footsteps and other phenomena but it isn't actually true at all. it's just a channel for low frequency effects. Dolby clearly says it does not affect the perception of placement through itself. and the subwoofer ≠ '.1' in the first place.

the real point of it is to separate out the very low frequencies from the other channels in a way so that it can get to be 10dB louder and not affect the rest of the material, to obviate the obvious mixing problem. for a theatrical mix.
