  • VE Pro 5 Bug (Video)

Ever since I first purchased VE Pro 4, I've been experience a problem loading patches in Kontakt, Geist, and Maschine. Particularly in Kontakt, if I don't have some channel armed for recording, the patch I attempt to load will not execute. I must take 2 steps most of the time:

Step 1: Arm any track of the Kontakt instance for recording

Step 2: Press the sustain pedal.

This same experience occurs in Ve Pro 5. Here is a video of it:

I use Ableton Live in this video, but it also happens in ProTools and Logic.

  • Still having this problem. I have have to press the sustain pedel while one of the plugin's tracks are record-enabled in order to load the patches and some GUI changes.  Is it that Kontakt, Maschine and Geist use some similar code that creates this bug?

  • Does this still happen with the latest version of VE Pro 5 (version 5.1.11262)? Also, does this not happen when hosting Kontakt straight in Ableton Live?

  • I upgraded to 5.1.11262 yesterday and tested.  Still happening.  This does not happen when using Kontakt straight inside Ableton Live.  I just tested again to make sure before posting. I don't know what role the sustain pedal serves in making it work, perhaps refreshing a parameter?  Very strange.

  • Indeed really strange. Possibly Ableton Live has some sort of issue when switching between windows of different processes, disabling audio processing. If so, you're looking at a design flaw in these plugins in the sense that they depend on a running audio engine to do their loading.

  • Turns out that this may indeed be an Ableton Live issue because I'm not having this problem when testing in ProTools. I'll open a thread in their forum.

  • It could be a feature of Ableton Live. The plugins themselves are to blame for depending on audio processing to initiate their loading.

  • I have been asking around about this, no answer yet.  Hopefully I'll find the solution soon.

  • So I've finally found the culprit.  Geist has an option to send active midi messages eliminate this problem.  Kontakt is currently lacking this feature.
