  • Sibelius 7 not recognizing VSL

I am trying to make VSL special edition work with Sibelius 7 and I'm having problems. I've posted this problem before but no one seems to be paying attention so I'm just posting again, I'm getting no help. And I've scoured the Internet for some sort of help and the same thing keeps coming up. I've watched the tutorial video of how to integrate VSL into Sibelius seven and I get stuck at the step where I'm supposed to deactivate the playback devices in the audio engine options and activate the vsl. It does not recognize the VSL. I have pasted the sound set and house styles where instructed and no luck. SIb 7 recognizes the house style from VSL but that is it. I keep the samples on an external hard drive and it is always connected. I would love to get some help.

  • Hello ADWasinger!

On Windows computers Sibelius has to be told where the VST Plugins and Instruments are located. This can be done in the menu Play/Setup/Audio Engine Options. Simply add the plugin folder, where you have installed the Vienna Instruments/Vienna Ensemble VST Plugins. Sibelius 7 64-bit can only load 64-bit plugins (like "Vienna Ensemble x64.dll") and Sibelius 7 32-bit can only load 32-bit plugins (like "Vienna Ensemble.dll").

    I hope this helps.

  • Thanks for the response! However I have tried adding the folders (C:/programfiles/vienna instruments) which is where the software if located, and also the folders on the external Drive in which the sounds themselves are located, still no luck. Is there any specific folder I should add?

  • It is specifically the .dll that Sibelius needs to find. Make sure that you are pointing Sibelius to the folder that contains this file. The sounds are irrelevant to all of this. They should be located using Directory Manager from the VSL programs folder in your start menu.

  • Hi Andi,

I'm having the same problem, except I am using a MacBook Pro, OS 10.7.4, 2.4 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo. I have the Vienna Instruments on an external drive.  Would you mind guiding me through a trouble-shooting session with this?  Thanks.

  • Hello Jeff!

On a Mac it isn't necessary to enter the plugin path. If Sibelius 7 doesn't find Vienna Instruments/Vienna Ensemble, I recommend uninstalling VI and VE and downloading and installing the latest version of VI (which also includes VE from now on). You can find it here:
    http://www.vsl.co.at/en/68/141/460/576/655.htm

If this doesn't help, please describe in detail what you have tried and what's the problem.

    Best regards,
    Andi
