  • Multiple Play instances in VE Pro 5/DP - not getting additional audio channels

Hi all, This is my first post here. Like many folks I am running VE Pro 5 in DP, especially since DP's still 32 bit. I set up a moderate sized orchestral template first with 6 Play instances (EWQLSO Gold) in 6 VE Pro instances. Already it's dragging on my computer, a 2.8 ghz Xeon Mac Pro w/ 24 gigs of RAM. So I figured I would do 3 VE Pro instances with 2 Play setups in each. The problem I've run into is this, and I can't find the answer in the manual! Each VE Pro has one Event plug assigned to it to address 32 midi channels in the 2 Play instances. I want to assign back out to DP 18 separate stereo audio channels as Play is limited to 9 each. I assign the first Play's outputs to 1-2 thru 17-18 both in Play and in the VEP mixer and the second Play's outputs to 19-20 thru 35-36 with DP set up to receive them on "VE Pro 5-1." The first Play instance audio comes out and I can route any of the 9 stereo outs from Play to any or the 9 faders (and outputs) in the VEP mixer. But NO audio comes out of the second Play unless I assign it to the first 9 VEP outputs! Is that a limitation in VE Pro, that even though we can get 32x16 midi ins there's no way to get more outputs? I thought the outputs were unlimited. Oh, and I'm setting the input of the first Play to Omni and the second to midi channel 2 and assigning the Event plug to it. There's got to be a solution as this doesn't make sense but I can't find it! I'd be inclined to host even more VI's in a single (or maybe two) instance of VEP if I could get all the outputs I need. Help?

  • I just want to add that I tried loading in a couple Omnispheres into one VEP instance and I can assign any of the outputs from the Omnispheres to any of the 18 stereo outputs I have set up. One instance and one Event plug. Works perfect. Go back to the one with the two Play instances and any output after 17-18 isn't working. Very strange.

  • That is strange.  May be a DP problem.  All channels work for me when sending to Ableton Live.

  • drala, are you using the latest VEP5? "ViennaEnsemblePro-WIN-5.1.11262" because i have some troubles like you, not only with PLAY.. in all instruments loaded in VEP5, the last instument loaded in the instance dont send audio to Cubase 6.5. I back to to "ViennaEnsemblePro-WIN-5.1.10988" and all go fine now, maybe a bug in latest VEP5 update??

  • Hey Codeblock, I'm on a Mac and I am using the latest version of VEP. There's a new Play update out but I haven't loaded it in yet mostly because it's only for libraries I don't own. I just have EWQLSO Gold, Stormdrum 2 and Goliath.

  • I am thinking this is a problem related to the Bundles setup in DP, and maybe there's bad juju with VEP and/or Play. I tried a brand new project and didn't have any problem assigning outputs to where I wanted them to go. So I have this huge template setup for 6 VEP instances and reassigning 3 of them to Event plugs seems to confuse DP. I think I'll try clearing out my template of all VEP plugs, save and quit, re-open and rebuild the routing assignments from scratch. We'll see if that works. What a time waster........
