  • Cubase 6.5, Kontakt 5, and VEPro 5

       Hi all,

Can someone please explain routing to differant outputs using Cubase 6.5 ,Kontakt 5 ,and VEPro 5 ? I tried YouTube but found nothing. I can route Kontakt to differant outs in Cubase when I use Kontakt alone as a VSTi, but when I put Kontakt inside VEPro I can't. What am I missing ? In VEPro I have 4 stereo outs set, but only one works. I NEED HELP [:(]

Thanks for any info you might have.

    Hi John,

Did you check the chapter "Muti-timbral plug-ins in Vienna Ensemble PRO" on page 49 of the VE PRO 5 manual?

    Does that help?

If you want multiple tracks from VE PRO back into the Cubase mixer, check the last chapter "Routing" on the Cubase-specific pages!

    Best,

  • This is my set up that works for me:

First open Vienna Ensemble Pro Server (You can choose between 32 or 64 bit, I always use the 64 bit as the 64 bit memory access is the reason for me to use VEPro).

A small dialog box will open. Click on "Add".  A new box will open where you can name the instance. I always name it as the project name. I also save it in the same project folder as my Audio, Images, Edit and .cpr files. This to remind me there is an instance of VEPro connected to the project. I always open the saved VEPro instance before opening any saved .cpr project.

You now add or load into VEPro any plugin (instrument) you may desire. In the VEPro mixer (At the top of each loaded plug in) you will find two buttons that defaults to "ALL". The right one lets you choose the midi instance. Set each instrument to separate midi instances if you want each instrument to play their own notes. Also set each plugin OUT to their separate channels (At the bottom of each mixer channel). Like plug in 1 is set to OUT 3/OUT 4, Instrument 2 is set to OUT 5/OUT 6 and so on for as many plugins you have.

Start Cubase. Now in Cubase load VEPro as a VST instrument and say yes to create a new track (F11 will bring up the box where you can load VST instruments). In that F11 box, besides the name "Vienna Ensaemble Pro" you see some buttons, like Freeze, on/off etc... Click the one closest to the name. Tick off the channels that corresponds with the settings you did on each of the plugins in VEPro. These will show imediately in your Cubase mixer.  In Cubase, in addition to the crated track for VEPro, add aditional MIDI tracks to total to the number of plugins in VEPro. Set the MIDI routing on each track to match the numbers you uses in VEPro (Found under the "ALL" button on top of each VEPro mixer). When adding MIDI tracks Cubase automatically sets the routing top VEPro if VEPro is opened as a VST instument first. But to be on the safe side, check this.

You should now be able to play each of the plugins in VEPro through separate tracks in Cubase. I use the Cubase mixer to level each plug in in volume. I only use the VEPro mixer if more than one instrument plays the same notes. I then use the same track in Cubase for these plugins (do not separte them with MIDI routing or OUT routing) and set the volume between them in the VEPro mixer.

    Hope this helped.
