  • What vienna ensemble pro exactly does?

Hi, I've been watching this softwares for month and now i'm ready to buy but few questions pop ups in my minds: 1) VEP doesn't have an arrange windows right? so i should use a sequencer software as well? 2) At moment i use just east west libraries (not yet vienna but soon) so could i open those libraries directly in VEP or i always have to open as instruments in the sequencer? 3) does any one use VEP with reaper? how it goes? 4) which are the benefits if i use just one computer? (mac book pro 15 dual core 4 gb ram) can some gigabyte of ram improve the featureS? thanks in advance

  • I'm not gonna answer all yer individual questions. I think Paul needs to do a video explainer for VEP that's as cool as the MIR one :D (inside joke.) Because they don't sell it very well.

    However...

If you are really committing to VSL? You NEED it. Just get it.

I bought VEP to use on a 'slave' computer---before I got my 1st VSL lib and it was handy.  But once I got my 1st VSL lib, I immediately found VSL works about 1,000% better with it---whether you have 1 computer or 4. Just get it. You can live without the other VSL softwares, but I cannot imagine using VSL without VEP. And I'm the cheapest bastard I know.

    Hi Raph,

There will be more basic videos about VE PRO soon, but I´ll just go ahead and answer your questions!

If you have the time, the already existing VE PRO videos should also give you a good idea.

    1) True, you will need a sequencer.

    2) Yes, you can insert any VST (WIN)  and AU (OS X) plug-in.

    3) No experience with Reaper, I have to admit, but AFAIK, you cannot insert virtual instruments in Reaper (only FX plug-ins). Please correct me if I´m wrong there.

    4) Benefits: Mainly that you can

    • keep your templates loaded (PRESERVE)
    • use 32 bit and 64 bit plug-ins OUTSIDE of your sequencer (which will DOUBLE the possible RAM load for your 32 bit plug-ins).

    Hope that helps,

    Paul

  • Thanks it was very helpful. I sow the video many time, you know i just made some questions before to buy. my main question is : before i used logic and i couldn't have any template running, because a template basically has loaded all the patches and instruments that i will need. Then i started to use reaper which works just great, also beacause of this template issue. In fact with reaper you can open virtual instruements as fx and you can just baypass when you don't need. So if i have a template with 30 instance but i'm gonna use just 10, i put all the other 20 in bypass. So is possible to that directly in VEP instead of use the sequencer? I mean using VEP which is the real purpose of the sequencer at this point? just to edit notes, CC continous controller?

VE PRO is "just" a host for your virtual instruments, with a few very cool features. You cannot write any notes or MIDI CC information in it. Vienna Ensemble is a shell for the plug-ins you have (you mentioned East West Sample Libraries).

You can easily test-drive VE PRO 5 with a free demo license, available on the product page (click "try"):

All you need is a ViennaKey to store your licenses on:

Alternatively, you can also use a Steinberg or Arturia Key, if you have one or can get one faster (they are usually available in music stores, and it´s the same copy protection system, "eLicenser").

    Best,

    Paul

    Hello Raph,

All our products are download products.

BUT you can order a delivery on a physical drive (USB Frash Drive or HD drive) in our webshop at the checkout.

The physical drives are available for our Instruments Collections, Special Editions and Software Products. Shipping prices depend on your location.

With VE PRO, it isn´t really worth the hassle, if you have a reasonable internet connection, tbh.

    Best,

    Paul
