  • Projects with VE pro 4 open up okay with 5?

Just wondering if I upgrade from VE pro 4.1.8861 to VE pro 5 whether projects will open up ok?

I ask this because a colleague of mine recently updated from 4.1.8861 to the latest version of VE PRO 4 and now none of the projects he sends to me will open on my version of VE4. I get empty vienna instruments within the frame.

I can't really go back to every track I've written using 4 and save metaframes as this would take ages and being a library composer I have a lot of tracks. ;-)

I really need something that's backwards compatible.

    Will this be the case

    Thanks for any guidance....

    Hi mozart999uk,

The reason for this problem is that he has saved his projects with the new VI interface (that needs to be installed separately and only works with the latets versions of VE PRO 4&5).

Songs saved with the new VI (version 5) cannot be opened by the "old" VI (version 4 or earlier), but of course it works the other way around.

VE PRO 4 and VE PRO 5 are also fully compatible in the upgrade direction 4=>5 (like usual with software versions).

Here is a link to the video tutorials that introduce the new VI version 5!

    Best,

    Paul

  • Hi Paul.  Thanks for your reply.

I've just tried out the demo of vs 5.  The VI's all open up fine. However, there are some quite drastic level differences in the VSL stuff.  I'm not sure if that's the difference in the player or ensemble. I only opened up a recent project briefly but straight away the mix of vsl stuff was completely different.  In this particular instance flute and oboe are much much louder. I rolled back to VE pro 4 and VI 4 and everything was back to normal.

I can't see any difference in levels in the ensemble mixer and the VI seems to be responding to level changes from Cubase.

Am happy to send you example files when work quietens down a little, At the moment I'll  have to stay where I am on vs 4  as I really need older tracks to open just as they are rather than having to sort the mix out each time.

Some nice touches in 5 though. :-)
