  • VE Pro 5 - Build 11548: "Channel set" bug.

    Hi!

There seems to be a bug with the new channel set feature in the latest VEP5 build. Input channels inside VEP5 is not properly saved. When you add a channel set, all input channels are set to "no input", regardless of what connection they had when you save the channel set.

Any chance for a quick fix? I did the clever move of saving the most recent template file in build 11548, and thus cannot load it in the previous build, so I would have to revert to an old version of my template, which I would prefer not having to do [:)]

Can anyone else confirm this? This is on a PC running Windows 7.

    Thanks!

  • This should only happen if the inputs were coming from outside the channels in the channel set (seeing as this would result in more or less random assignments). Is that the case?

Note that channel set files still have all the assignments stored in them, so if this turns out to be an actual bug, you'll be able to load them in the next update.

  •  For example, in build 11262 I can do the following:

    1. Create 5 VÌ Pro instances.
    2. Create 5 Input channels.
    3. Route the output of each of the 5 VI Pro instances to the 5 Input channels.
    4. Save the 5 input channels as a "Channel set"
    5. Delete the 5 input channels.
    6. Load the channel set containing the 5 input channels.
    7. The 5 input channels will reappear with the VI Pro outout assigned to them correctly.

If I do the same in build 11515 the 5 input channels with appear without the output from VI Pro. "No input" will be selected. The channel set does not contain the any of the VSTs, only input channels and busses. But this works in the previous builds.

So far I have only rearranged on of the VEP instances on my template, but here one channel set; "default setup", contains 197 channels (input channels). If I delete all the input channels, and then load the "default setup" channel set, all channels reappears with the correct routing. That is until I tried loading the channel set in the latest build, now every input channel is set to "no input".

    Comments?

Oh, this is all within the same instance of VEP, I use the channel set almost as a "project save". So I can easily rearrange instruments within MIR, adjust volum/plugin settings between different projects, without loading the entire VEP session again.

  • This was actually a bug in previous versions. If you would load such a channel set in an unrelated project, the input assignments would depend solely on the channel numbers, which is simply incorrect. The channels in a channel set have no knowledge of any channels in your project and the fact that it worked like that before was just a happy coincidence. Perhaps in a future version we'll devise a more clever scheme for this though. Apologies for the inconvenience.

  • Oh no...are kidding me?! Haha...that's just...awful news. [:O]

But yeah, I asked about a solution for this quite some time ago, and it would be great if you could implement something.
This is the only problem, but a HUGE problem with the current way VEP works. With really big templates it is impractical to make small changes on a project by project basis, as you have no way of saving and recalling them without reloading the entire sample base.

As I see it, the biggest benefit with VE Pro is the fact that you can keep all your samples loaded when switching between projects. But with now with MIR also implemented directly into VE Pro, there is no easy way to make quick changes to individual instruments, between projects.
The only way (besides the "happy coincidence" bug) is to reload all samples, just to change the MIR seatings, volum/plugin settings.

Are you then saying that there currently is no way of achieving what I'm describing here? If there isn't, I really hope you can make this
functionallity a priority. We need to have some way of loading channel/mir settings without having to reload all samples. Please. Really. Pleeeeease! [:)]

    Thank you.

    Best regards
