  • Question about VSL House Style and Sibelius 7.12

    Hello:

Is it necessary to import the VSL House Style into each new Sibelius score, or do you only need to import it once?

    Thanks,
    John

  • Hi John!

The House Style needs to be chosen for each score separately. This can either be done from the very start while creating a new score or anytime with the Import House Style menu.

  • The VSL House Style for Sibelius aka Vienna Symphonic Library.lib (dated 01.10.2012 - currently to be found in the download area) is a rather frustrating file for a Mac user. After unzipping, Mac OSX 10.8.2 identifies it as an Unix-File with an "exec" icon.. confusing! After importing the style into a Sibelius score, it always tells you that the fonts Maestro and Vivo are missing. Maestro and Vivo are not part of the Sibelius installation and not standard in Mac OS. Even tough I found a download for the Maestro font, I couldn't find the Vivo font.. I hope VSL will have a look at these issues and make importing their house style into Sibelius 7 a better and more enjoyable feature!

  • Hello thosch!

We made an update to the "Vienna Symphonic Library" House Style for Sibelius that got rid of the fonts you have mentioned.

Mac OS calls the file a Unix executable file, because it doesn't know what kind of file it is. This shouldn't matter. [;)]

  • Hi Andi Thank you for reacting so quickly and removing those fonts. But the .lib file being identified as exec file is still confusing for any Mac OS user. I thought I had downloaded the wrong file actually, because exec files don't exist on a Mac! When I export my own house styles within Sibelius, they are being labeled as Documents by Mac OS and show the correct icon for this type of file. So why don't you do it the same way to avoid confusion? Thank you for your efforts, Thomas

  • Hi Thomas!

The "Vienna Symphonic Library" House Style file is created with Sibelius 7.1.3 on a Windows computer. We have no influence on how a Mac computer displays this format in the Finder as the file is created with Sibelius software and not with ours. Please understand that we don't make an additional import and export step on Mac just to display another icon. Who knows what else happens to the file in such a step. If this should bug you, please either import/export the House Style yourself or contact the Sibelius team. Maybe they can do something about it in a future Sibelius update.

  • I did find the file...supposedly; but, I don't know where to put the unix executable file so that it opens in Sibelius 6. I have a Mac mini. There is a Sibelius 6 License Server folder, a Sibelius Example folder, and a Sibelius folder under Applications when I open up the Finder. In which of the Sibelius folders I mentioned do I create the House Styles folder? Is the mac file called a License Server of which I put into the House Style folder? There are two other kinds of which have the unix executable title; but, I am not sure which one I use. When I tried creating a new house style, Vienna Instruments still doesn't play back correctly. Can you please help? In kind regards, Alex

  • Hello Alex!

Please download and run the VSL Soundset Installer. It includes the latest version of the "Vienna Symphonic Library" House Style and will copy it to the correct folder automatically.

Further instructions on how to integrate our instruments in Sibelius can be found in the "Optimizing Sibelius Playback" Manual and the "VSL and Sibelius" tutorial video.

  • I understand those steps. When I read the Optimizing Sibelius Playback menu though, it said if the House Style folder does not exist, simply create it. I did that last night. My big question is where do I put the House Style folder so that it will put it in the correct 'House Styles' folder when I download it. Out of the Sibelius locations I mentioned, which one do I put the House Style folder so that it puts it in the correct folder when I download it?

  • Hello Alex!

You have quoted an old version of the "Optimizing Sibelius Playback" manual. It's not necessary to create a folder or to copy the house style file. Simply run the VSL Soundset Installer.
