  • Trumpet Bb for hollywood sound?

    Hi,

I'm on a quest to get a second unique sounding solo trumpet! So I was wondering if the downloadable Trumpet Bb is suitable for Hollywood-style trumpets. I know the C is much brighter, more piercing than the Bb alhough John Williams seems to use them almost exclusively in his scores for big sounding pieces like Star Wars. The VSL demos make it sound more like a jazz trumpet (which doesn't come as a suprise as most jazz players use Bb), but is it capable of producing the louder, brighter tones as hear on most Hollywood productions?

Also, I DO have the fantastic fanfare trumpets, which is great for big, unisono melodies. I was suprised to find out it features 3 C and 3 Bb trumpets. Just from a realism-standpoint, are there any real life examples of orchestral pieces/orchestra's that have the same setup? And how common is it for an orchestra to have a C and a Bb playing at the same time?

    Kind regards,

    Carsten

  • Just for your info, Star Wars was recorded on Bb Trumpets, not C. The LSO in London on the whole don't use C Trumpets.

    Many thanks

  • Thanks for the info, Dave :)

Anyone here who can enlighten me on the previous question?

  • I've got the Bb Tpt and it's a great instruement. Not open in front of me but I seem to remember it has a more extended top range than the C Tpts as well. Works well in big scores and orchestral settings.

  • Thanks Julian! So the trumpet get louder and more piercing than on the demo's?
