  • Routing audio internally in VEPro 5

I'm building an orchestral template and want to use VEPro for all of my mixing, and then just have Cubase connect to it for inputting MIDI and outputting the final mixing result.

One problem I've run into is that VEPro does not seem to allow to load VEPro Audio Input plugins (to avoid endless loops?).

I currently have 5 instances running of which one is the final mixing stage (with e.g. reverbs for different rows in the orchestra). I want to route the audio output of the other instances to the one mixing instance for easy mixing consistency.
However to do this, I first have to route the audio back to Cubase, insert the respective audio input plugins there to route the audio back to the VEPro mixing instance which kind of defeats VEPro's purpose of decoupling the mixing from Cubase. Is there an easy way to route audio around inside VEPro between different instances that I am missing?

  • You'll want to run everything in a single instance of VEP.

Dorico, Notion, Sibelius, StudioOne, Cubase, Staffpad VE Pro, Synchon, VI, Kontakt Win11 x64, 64GB RAM, Focusrite Scarlett 18i20, August Forster 190
  • so you're making a send from an instrument channel to an FX channel that is 'VE Pro Audio Input' rather than a send from a VE Pro channel to an FX channel in VE Pro? I don't see the difficulty. However it is the only way to achieve this audio from instance to instance, thru Cubase.

"decoupling the mixing from Cubase" isn't actually very meaningful if you think it through.

I'm doing this all the time. The parameters to mix VEP are reported to Cubase. VEP's mixer is controlled in eg., Cubase, in fact is rather an extension of, or a submixer to, Cubase.  If you're mixing, the control is through  the DAW host. *The purpose of* VEP is to host plugins in a process other than the sequencing host. It has a more elaborate mixer than most, if not all, Multitimbral instruments, but Kontakt has a mixer, you know. You'd automate what it reports to the DAW host, same as with VE Pro. Only VE Pro's is a full-on mixer.

This audio input is an add-on primarily to send to MIR for a mixing stage. I use an instance often for FX - other than the instruments instance - and weigh the cores/resources according to load. It's really quite convenient. I don't know of anything like it.
