  • Solo Strings Release Bug?

Hi everyone! I'm now a proud owner of a license to the Solo Strings I library and I love the sound of it so far, but for some reason whenever (for example) I hold a note on my keyboard to play a trill patch, if I let the trill sample end, letting go of the key will trigger a release sound even though the trill has ended. I'm not sure if this is true for all patches, but it happens for me with the 11 VA trill 2. Hopefully this can be resolved. I'm looking forward to responses. Thank you. EDIT: It seems to happen to certain notes.

  • Yes, this is correct behaviour. If you don't want it to do that, switch the release sample off.

  • I must say that this is a strange behavior. I'm new to VSL, so is there a way to key switch and automate the release sample on and off? (Also, I am relived that Vienna Instruments decided to replace the old standard sample player with one that is similar to the pro version.)

  • No, it's not strange at all, if you think about it. When you take your finger off the key before the note's original length is over, then you get a release sample, so that the note doesn't suddenly cut off. This is the same for many of VSL's patches. With the trills, as far as I remember they are not looped, so if you hold the note down until the full recorded length has played, the VI player has no way of knowing whether or not to play the release sample, unless you tell it to.

The release samples can be switched off by use of a controller. Read the manual for details. [;)]

  • If you own VI Pro, you could create a matrix cell for the trill articulation, consisting of a MIDI note (the length of which wouldn't exeed that of the trill patch) in the VI Pro sequencer,  then set it to loop, and leave the release on, so that it always sounds correctly whenever you let go of the key.

  • Do you have a non-Vienna Instruments Pro solution?

  • Simple. Relase the note before it ends.
