  • Extremely poor performance from Vienna Imperial

    Hi all,

I'm getting dreadful pops and clicks when playing the Vienna Imperial.  I've consistenly run much larger ensembles on my rig using dimension strings etc.  My machine is very recent 8 core (PC), Cubase 6 and I'm running my good old Delta 66.

By the time I've got the latency down to anything near playable, I'm getting pops and clicks every second or so.  Now, my first instinct was that it must be my machine, and I'm not ruling it out, and happy to try suggestions.  It's just the fact that everything else runs beautifully, it's only the Vienna imperial which is giving me hassle.  I'm running it now in a setup that's got nothing else in, and am still getting really poor performance.  It's ok when I shove the ASIO buffer up to 2048, but obviously the latency at that setting is way too high for actual use.

I'd be really grateful for some assistance on this, this one has me scratching my head.

    Best

    Mike

  • A few thoughts:

Have you tried uninstalling it, and then reinstalling it?  Also, have you updated it to the most recent version?  What sort of hard drive do you have it on?

  • Have you got the right requirements of the Vienna Imperial, I mean you have good specs, because sometimes when I use VST's and when it lags I always blame my computer speculations. Pherhaps it is, or pherhaps it isn't. Did it work greatly before you got the low performance?

  • Thanks both, good thoughts.

Actually, I've done some more messing around, and it's the reverb that's causing the problems.  I've turned it off completely, and am using an external verb.

I've no idea why this might be, though.  As I said, I use VSL stuff all the time, and the performance is generally very good.

  • And of course you defragmented your drive after installing it...

  • Yup, did all the 'idiot' checks.

Weird.  Still having the issue.  It's not a major problem as I'm using a separate verb plugin.  But I never get problems like this with Vienna stuff.

    Ho hum.
