  • Help with Audio Outputs in VEP 5 and Cubase 6.5

I have VEP 5 server running on an iMAC networked to my MAC Book Pro running VEP 5 and Cubase 6.5. I have one instance of VEP 5 loaded with a full orchestra of plugins using various EWQL libraries. Everything in VEP 5 runs through the Master BUS. I have tried to separate outs into groups so that I can send them out to a MOTU 828 II and then into a Mackie D8b console. I am doing this to get more flexibility in mixing stereo pairs. Problem is that the process of assigning different channel strips in VEP 5 through the outputs in Cubase is confusing at best. Is this even possible, or can the instance of VEP 5 only be assigned to one stereo output at a time? That is if I understand what an "Instance" is. COuld I for example add 4 busses in VEP 5 and then assign different channel strips to a bus and then assign the bus an Output to which will correspond to an output within Cubase?? RJ

  • My guess is that you added the VE Pro plugin to Cubase as Instrument track, which will only give you a single stereo output from the plugin. Add the VE Pro plugin to the VST Instruments rack in Cubase (menu Devices -> VST Instruments) and then enable all (or a selection) of its outputs using the small [-> icon next to the plugin name. This will allow you to use all outputs of the plugin at least. Inside the connected VE Pro instance (which is where the mixer and channel list of VE Pro is displayed) you can set the output of any channel in VE Pro easily using a combobox available on both the channel and mixer strips there. Also make sure to have a look at the manual if you're unsure. Hope that helps.

  • Thanks; I tired all of that. Here is the problem. I cannot seem to get the outputs (1-32) listed on the slave instance in the mixer channel to correspond to my MOTU 828 outputs. If I bring up a stand alone instance of VE Pro on the master computer running Cubase, I can set each channel to a corresponding MOTU pair of outputs successfully and therefore combine like instruments on the same bus. I cannot do this on the instance running on the slave computer in a networked situation. No matter what output pair (1-2 / 31-32) on the Slave, they all come out the same output on the MOTU 828. And there is no Audio setup icon in the preferences application on the slave. 1) Launch VEP 5 Server on iMAC; 2) Launch Cubase 6.5 on MAC Book Pro; 3) Instantiate VEP 5 as VST Instrument; 4) CLick on the Connect Button within Cubase / MAC Book Pro and connect to iMAC 5) VEP 5 mixer window loads on IMAC with 15 slots of various plugins. 6) set the output on anyone of the plugins from Master to Output 1-2. Sound comes out the Main outputs of the MOTU 828. 7) Set the output of another plugin to output 3-4. SOund still comes out the MOTU Main Outs. Again, works fine in stand alone mode. SO the question is, what do I need to do to get the 32 outputs in VEP 5 to correspond to the outputs on the MOTU 828? I hope this makes sense. RJ

  • oops. I meant Tried, not Tired! My problem is that there seems to be no way to assign the outputs in the preferences area on the slave to match my MOTU outputs. The Audio set-up icon does not appear on the menu on the slave. The only thing you can do is change the number of audio outputs. Am I missing something? RJ

  • If you are running the server version of VEP you can't assign the outputs to anything other than the VSTi outputs in Cubase.
