  • VEP keeps crashing

Not sure what's happening here. I've had a good year of rock solid performance now VEP keeps crashing. I tried the newest update and still crashes like crazy. Also tried reinstalling VEP, Play, and Pro Tools 9. Still crashing.

Here are the crash details: Problem Event Name: BEX64 Application Name: Vienna Ensemble Pro x64.exe Application Version: 5.0.0.10370 Application Timestamp: 4f73aaaf Fault Module Name: play_VST_x64.dll Fault Module Version: 3.0.30.0 Fault Module Timestamp: 4ed818ff Exception Offset: 00000000001d683f Exception Code: c000000d Exception Data: 0000000000000000 OS Version: 6.1.7601.2.1.0.768.3 Locale ID: 1033 Additional Information 1: abb2 Additional Information 2: abb23192a1acf8bab854607d477229e8 Additional Information 3: 1411 Additional Information 4: 141113eee0cbfe0d7a6455549ce83959

I'm doing an arranging gig and I'm dead in the water. Any help is appreciated.

  • The crashlog points to Play crashing. Either contact EastWest about the problem, or remove Play from your project.

  • Removing play is not a realistic solution. Play has worked fine for the past year and I have huge projects that I need to be able to open. It is VEP that is crashing. Even my oldest versions of Play (and newest) are crashing VEP. I've contacted tech support and they had me download new software but I'm still unable to open my main orchestral template which has over 200 instruments.

  • Same happening here ... but it only started after updating VEP one week ago. Haven't had it updated for almost 1/2 year. Please fix this asap!

  • Another hint- I noticed the midi arrow lights up during every hard crash. Here is a screenshot: https://dl.dropbox.com/u/2128276/UploadedPics/IMG_1003.JPG

  • Another thing- if I open my template BEFORE opening VEP server, I can then open VEP and manually reconnect every instance and it will work for about 5 minutes before crashing again. =(

Do you happen to remember which version you had installed before you upgraded?

  • 5.0.10370, 5.0.10738, and 5.1.10988 all worked perfectly in the past. I've tried reverting and none of them are working now. Reinstalled my other programs too (Pro Tools 9 and Play, various versions) and still no luck. At the moment all of them are the most current versions.

  • Then it really sounds like this is an issue unrelated to VE Pro. Perhaps another change in your setup is really causing the issue?

  • Nothing has changed at all here in the past year. VEP crashes and Pro Tools keeps running. To me that sounds related to VEP. Projects with smaller VEP templates and projects without VEP run without crashing. If East West crapped out and VEP was still running then maybe VEP would look less suspect. Are you able to translate the info from the crash log I posted?

  • As I mentioned earlier, it is Play that crashes. If a plugin crashes, it takes the host down with it. East west might be able to help you, so please send the crash report to their support.

  • Yes thanks, I posted the same information on their forums yesterday and also gave them a link to this thread.

  • Here is a zip of the Pro Tools session (all midi) and the VEP metaframe. https://dl.dropbox.com/u/2128276/Sharing/ProToolsSessionAndVEPMetaframe.zip

  • Tried to setup a new template differently (without using Play's multi-outputs) and got this error message:

Problem signature: Problem Event Name: APPCRASH Application Name: Vienna Ensemble Pro x64.exe Application Version: 5.1.0.11849 Application Timestamp: 50a853d8 Fault Module Name: Vienna Ensemble Pro x64.exe Fault Module Version: 5.1.0.11849 Fault Module Timestamp: 50a853d8 Exception Code: c0000005 Exception Offset: 00000000004d0b39 OS Version: 6.1.7601.2.1.0.768.3 Locale ID: 1033 Additional Information 1: 35df Additional Information 2: 35dfe1efe86af831f42d67ed176193e4 Additional Information 3: c3ba Additional Information 4: c3bab3e1664e31469533585def44275b

  •  Still not solved.  Any help is appreciated.  Haven't heard anything from East West either... [:|]

  • This will not load on my PC but all my Play-based m-frames and v-frames do just fine, so I am guessing it is corrupted.

  •  I'm 100% sure it's not corrupt.   If I DON'T load VEP server, the pro tools session opens up (without vep of course).  If I DO open VEP server I can load all my samples into it.  The problem is when I load the server, then launch the PT session- it crashes while trying to "connect".

More proof that the template is not corrupt:  If I try to rebuild it from scratch, I get the same crash right when I've loaded 40-50 patches.

Jay, have you spoken to anyone else at East West about it?  I have gone the "official" support route and received the auto-generated reply, but that was Tuesday and still nobody has contacted me.  Case number:  29868

  • I'll ask, but if I cannot open it they will probably not be able to open it, and anyway, I am not sure any of them use VE Pro.

  • Thanks Jay, I just want them to check out the error message and see if they can figure out what is happening.

  • Hi,

We have provided the East West Team with many NFR licenses for VE PRO for that reason.

    Best,

    Paul
