I have this issue very often. (sometimes it works sometimes it doesn't, strangely...) The issue of no loop on sus. strings. Probably this subject is tackled already, but I cannot find the answer. Can somebody point me to the right direction.

All the strings are sustaining and looped, except for Solo Strings which was an artistic decision since the loop points tend to sound very obvious and artificial, like a tape recording that has been spliced. (That was a source of some argument here at one time). However, you may be accessing some non-looped patches such as sforzando, dynamics, or special articulations which are not looped. But the normal sustains and legatos in Orchestral, Chamber, Appassionata and Dimension are all looped.

it's about the solo strings from the Special Edition Vol. 1 Strings PLUS. So as I read the post before you, it's not available? Can I tweak it somehow because the legato samples are really very short.

On Solo strings the legato samples cut off at the point where the target note's bow ends. So you can do a crossfade to a sustain note if you want a longer sustain. An easy way to do that is to place the sustain articulation in slot b, click the "x" between them, and then assign whatever controller you want in the control map area to "slot crossfade." Then after the legato transition you crossfade to the sustain. It sounds pretty much like another bowing being done.
Another thing to keep in mind is that the "sul" patches are longer on their target note's sustain. So if that sound fits what you are doing, you can keyswitch to those when you need a longer sustain.

I reopen this thread, because I've the same issue. Doing as William suggested had no effect to me (even frequently changing slot with the A/B keyswitch didn't prevent the Solo String notes to stop soon).
Another thing I noticed: with the "035 VI sustain" articulation, retriggering a note do not restart the new note, but it seems to continue the preceeding one. As a consequence, the second note stops very soon, just after a few beats.
May someone else give advice on how to solve this issue? Any workaround would be welcome.

You are probably playing with Performance Legatos, which are indeed not looped for the Solo Strings (we simply couldn't get it to sound good).
One option is to re-trigger the same note with the held sustain pedal (so there' s no gap between the notes), this will trigger a bow change sustained note.

I'm playing with the "035 VI sustain" articulation selected (I can see it in VI). But I will try with the sustain pedal trick you suggest. However, I'm not convinced looped sustain would not work, as I've read in other threads, since I'm using looped solo strings from another library (XSample), and I can't find anything inconvenient in how they sound.
What if you supplied both unlooped and looped patches? Maybe looped ones could work fine in a mix (I'm testing VSL on Ligeti's Atmosphères, and I doubt loop imperfections would be too noticeable in that dense context).

Since Ligeti says that bows should change seldom, and not regularly, maybe using the several-shorter-notes-for-a-longer-one trick could work well. I should test on real string instruments how long a bowing can last, if aiming at changing as few times as possible.
Is the sustain or the pLegato patch recommended, for this legato bow change with pedal down?
