  • record a strings quartet

Hi everybody, I live in France and I'm a music teacher. I wrote a comedy which will be played by my pupils in juny. one of the songs contains a strings quartet, I thought I could find a real quartet to play it but I'm still looking for... Suddenly, I had an magical idea... VSL ! Unfortunately I haven't got this vst and even I would buy it, it will be too long to learn to use it ! So does someone, who read scores, could play and record it for me ? It's not long, it's easy... I would be very glad (and my pupils too...) If you are interested, don't hesitate to send me an ip or in this post Thank you so much, Pierre

  • I would be happy to do it for you. If you have the sheet music, I can do it for you.

  • thank you for your help jhstrong, but unfortunately I should have mentioned that we haven't got budget for this, we're a poor college... You stil want to help us ? Pierre If you agree I send you a manuscript score as soon as...

  • Because this is not a paid job, and I am unsure of the ethics for this message board regarding job postings/accepting them, I will make my "bid" because I could use a demo and this is within my skill set's strongest area. Typically, I feel doing work at no cost devalues the cost of work the members of this board/guilds/unions/freelancers provide, not to mention the investments the musicians and composers have made to do such work.

As a "poor" academic as well, I am looking for work to use as demos and also to learn through teamwork with members in the industry. As a string player in many quartets, I would enjoy the project as a charitable project and if the value of the piece is able to amount to enough funds to add a single upgrade to a package of VSL to help my work (approx 120 euro investment) then it would be a bonus. I would look at the manuscript and produce a demo for you, and ask if I may put it as a public demo (discuss distribution & attribution/etc) even if you decide to use another members version.

This brings up a good question for the forum: I did not notice a specific posting related to job postings. I have strong feelings about maintaining the ethics of the community and to follow a consistent set of rules. I see on other job boards (e.g. the Unity 3D game engine has a Job Board where the individuals contracting work are consistently putting out very low prices for work bids that should be billed $150USD an hour, but they are aware skilled designers are also desperate at this time and willing to create a 3D game for $1,000 dollars (less than the cost of the software). Any advice on the appropriate section of the message board or advice on maintaining a community standard?

    Best wishes,

    David

  • I understand very well your point of view and agree with you. Any work deserves salary! But effectively it is a charitable project, ourselves worked hundreds of hours for the only smiles of the children! I thank you for them if you grant to share with us this beautiful project. They do not have much you know... If you still want to help us, I'll send you the score as soon as possible, probably tomorrow... Thank you, Pierre

  • I am just a new member to the VSL community, and I know each community and craft has a standard so I wanted to tread lightly versus treading on toes. My e-mail is davidkozin@me.com and you can e-mail me the score with any other information about the project. I will definitely support the work.

    Best wishes,

    David
