  • Controller

Does anybody know a really good controller for VSL Instruments? I have been using Novation Remote Zero SL MK2: rubish!

  • Had the same problem. The midi keyboards just didn't seem right to play as I'm used to (many years of classical piano training). In the end, there was no way around buying a digitalpiano. There are some entry level ones that aren't more expensive than midi keyboards (e.g. most Casio models).

Just play different models at the stores to get a feeling of which keybeds you like. I chose a Roland FP 7F which is expensive in comparison, but it has a very fine keybed and is suited for real piano playing. For the sliders and knobs you can always add a cheap midi controller

Then there's this coming (presumably next week).

  • well, I have a Kawai MP10 and for me it just feels like the only true piano keyboard on digital pianos. so the kawai vpc could be great.

MP 10 shouls also be an alternative ... much more affordable than some other options, great keyboard ( if you do not need aftertouch), some assignable controllers ...

    phope that helps

  • I always wanted either an MP10 or LMK4+ keyboard but never did purchase one because I already had a full size digital ensemble piano.  It is quite aged at this point but works like a champion.  It just doesn't have the keybed anywhere near what they offer today.  After playing the MP10 I never wanted anything else, it was that good feeling to me.

I can't imagine how good that new Kawai will be.  And even more, that studio keyboard also listed in this discussion.  That thing must just be incredible.  As DG said though, dam that thing is expensive!  They are both tempting though haha :).

  • The Kawai VPC1 is out.  $1850 street price.

As the Remote Zero does not have a keyboard, it probably is not the best way to control VSL instruments.  [:^)]

  •  Dietz,

Thanks for mentioning the new FLKeys midi piano. It looks to be a great keyboard because it claims to provide 100% midi messages regardless of the chosen playing weight. However at that price it is quite a leap of faith!

Have you actually played it, or do you know anyone who has and can give some kind of feedback.

    Would be much appreciated.

    Best regards, Roy

  • Roy, I have played it myself (but I don't own one), and a few guys here in Vienna already use a customized VSL-Edition of the biggest model (in blue, with a black bass-key extension on the left). With the earliest models, there has been a little issue with the black keys (C#, D# etc.) being slightly heavier to play than the white keys, but AFAIK this has already been adressed.

It was also shown at this year's NAMM, so maybe other forum-members have seen and played it already, too.

    HTH,
