  • What version of Pro Tools works best with VE Pro 5?

I have both logic and pro tools and I have tried for 3 weeks to warm up to logic, but PT just seems smoother to me in so many ways. Right now Im doing my sequencing in Logic and mixing in PT. If I switch everything over so that my PT computer handles both the sequencing and mixing duties, as far as functionality, will VE Pro RTAS perform just as well?

  • I'm on a pretty decent setup and having DAW ADD and I played with Pro Tools yesterday. Was a bit of a mixed reaction. The setup seemed far more intuitive for me than the others I've used (DP (primary), Cubase 7, Logic), with Logic being the worst. I liked the way it was set up, but I got a lot of pops and clicks until I changed the buffers a lot (which I've never had to do with DP once). After that works just fine. I would say works second behind DP in my book, though a lot would say Logic works best as far as performance (I just couldn't get into Logic).   I'm starting to think I should just stay with DP.  Cubase 7 is the worst.

Like you, I really tried to force myself to like Logic, and there were things I did like about it, but for me the workflow and ridiculous way in which things are set up is just not intuitive and seems to slow me down.  DP and Pro Tools (both very similar) win for workflow and being intuitive. I'm liking Cubase 7 and starting to get addicted, but the performance seems to be a downgrade.

Having serious latency and added/missing notes, and again, on a pretty decent damn setup. But, I put that blame on Cubase 7, not VE Pro. Ensemble is the best money I've ever spent on gear/software.

  • Sorry, I failed to answer your inital question. This was on Pro Tools 9.
