  • Aves Orientalis (a Wind Quintet)

If your breath has ever been taken away by the moment a Siberian Crane or Chinese Egret takes flight, you will understand what inspired me to compose Aves Orientalis ("Birds Oriental"), an homage to the majestic white birds I would occasionally glimpse on my long walks through the countryside of Korea.

Scored for wind quintet, Aves Orientalis features the flute, oboe, clarinet, Vienese horn, and bassoon from the Vienna Symphonic Library Special Edition Plus with reverb provided by MIR Pro (Schubertsaal), sequenced in Sonar 8.5.

I welcome your comments and critiques. Thanks for listening!

  • Hi, do you know where to purchase this piece? I would like to perform this with my WQ...not finding much luck when I google the title. Thanks! ~J~

  • That is an excellent piece.  My only criticism is maybe the staccato 16th notes could be a little more pronounced?  There were a lot of 6 note pickup phrases to longer notes that seemed to need slightly more emphasis or clarity - maybe.  It wasn't a big thing though - a very small criticism as this is really well done and a beautiful piece.  I notice you are getting interest from woodwind quintets, which is great.   Congratulations.  (Also, a very nice presentation on youtube with the montage of pictures...)

  • very beautiful composition.... i liked it very much grey
