  • VE Pro support for Kontakt 5 outputs

    Hi,

I'm setting up some new templates with DP8 and VEPro. It appears that VEPro does not support 64 outputs from Kontakt 5 instances. I can only get 32 to show up, although DP8 sees all 64, as weil Kontakt in standalone mode.

Does VEPro support 64 outs for Kontakt 5?

I should clarify that the output drop down menu DOES show 64 outputs available in VEPro but I am unable to set up more than 16 total stereo outs (1 main, 15 AUX)

I have set all the preferences to their maxiumum counts on each VEPro instance and this does not change anything.

    Any thoughts?

    Thanks!

    M.

  • Correct me if I'm wrong, but from my understanding, Kontakt supports 64 MONO outs, which become 32 Stereo outs. The problem might also have something to do with Digital Performer's lack of support for VST 3.5.

  • You are correct. The problem is that VEPro only recognizes the first 32 mono outputs in a single instance of the Kontakt plug-in, i.e, the AUXs only open out to say "1 Kontakt 16". I want to be able to use all 32 stereo outputs. DP8 itself sees all 64 mono outputs for each Kontakt instance. I can't figure out if it's a limitation of VEPro or Kontakt-within-VEPro. Also, I'm on a Mac so I'm using AU for all plugs.

The only workaround I can use is to set up two Kontakt instances in VEPro with one using the first 32 outs and the second using 33-64. It's not a huge problem, but I would like to cut down on the number of windows open in a given session and have one less multi to keep track of in a large setup.

  • This is a limitation in the AU hosting of VE Pro. It currently only supports up to 16 output buses. I'll change that to 32 for the next update of VE Pro.

Hi Karel, did that ever get updated?  I'm having a similar problem, although I'm only getting 8 stereo outs in Kontakt.  When I go to add a new VST plugin, my only Kontakt options are stereo, 8 out, or 16 out.  This is on my Windows 7 slave.

  • Have you set a suitable default within Kontakt itself after loading the Kontakt plug?

  • IE: VEP 5 does support 32 stereo or a combination that amounts to 64 mono outs from Kontakt 5 today.

  • Hi folks, thanks for the replies.  I know that it all should be possible, I just haven't cracked the code yet.  I set up a default output configuration within Kontakt that has 16 stereo pairs, but I don't get Kontakt outputs higher than plugin out #15 & 16.

  • Hi,

I wanted to chime in and say that since first cretaing this thread, the issue was solved soon after in the VEP update that came out after I first posted (thank you, VSL!). I've been using 64 Kontakt outs on VEPro for some time. My host is DP and all of the outputs appear automatically with each instatiation in both DP and VEP. I don't know how this routing may work in other hosts, but VEP definitely supports it with both Kontakt 4 and 5. I open Kontakt within VEPro and just keep adding auxes with the '+' button on the master Kontakt channel strip until I run out - which adds up to 32 stereo outputs.

  • Is that on both the master computer and slave?  I've had no problems getting all the outputs on my Mac master, it's just the PC.  My VEPro and Kontakt are both up to date as well, so maybe it's something I did wrong on install?

  • My zombie computers are Mac Minis and they all work same as the master. I can't speak for PCs as I don't own one, but if I come across someone set up that way, I'll ask.

  • It seems to be a PC thing.  I heard back from VSL support, they think it's an NI issue, I've got a support ticket with them now, so I'll post any results I get.

    Thanks!

  • Turns out it was more of an "I'm an idiot" thing.  There's three versions of Kontakt that showed up in my available VSTs, Kontakt (stereo), Kontakt (8 out), and Kontakt (16 out).  I assumed that Kontakt (stereo) was just a stereo instance with 2 outs, but in fact that's the one that has all your available outputs.  Problem's solved, and would've been solved a few years ago if I'd actually tried doing that.  Ahh well.
