  • Dimension Strings Portamento speed

    Hi VSL Community,

After finally getting the time to sit down and enjoy DV, i was wondering if it's possible to control the 'Portamento' effect in terms of both volume and speed? According to AudioBros, in LASS, you can set 'Porta' speed by note on velocity, is there a way of doing this and setting the volume in DV ?

    Many Thanks,

    MD

If you are using VI Pro, you can use the stretch feature to shorten or lengthen the Portamento. You can then put different versions in different cells and use velocity to move between them. To change the volume of the Portamento would suggest that it is a separate entity from the note that follows it. It is not.

  • Hi DG,

    Thanks for the reply.

I am using VI Pro so will give that a try. With regards Porta volume, it's more about making it a little more subtle. I do agree that they are not separate entities but it would be nice to have a little more control even though it's not quite real world.

    Thanks,

  • Pull the Velocity xFade controller down at the start of the Portamento note.

I'm sure every DS user would benefit from a friendlier approach regarding legatos and portamentos.

Like I wrote here a few weeks back, I for one certainly hope the VSL team comes up with ready made presets for the whole DS library. If only one, faster portamentos.

  • Just replied to your OP, i hope someone in VSL will take a look and possibly chime in???

  • I join my self here, using strech feature to make fast portamentos for DS will be tedious jobs for us since we have 8 violins for each setup.

I feel frustrated because I get used to the solo, champer strings which are very nice and playable directly.

VSL team please update us with fast portamento presets similar to solo and champer strings.

    Thanks
