Greetings everyone: I am in the market to upgrade my audio card, and have referenced Tascam's list of compatible audio with the GSIF 2.0 driver. I will be running GigaStudio 3, and have pre-ordered the new Sonar 4 Producer edition. I would like it to have Opital output, MIDI input for my 1 controller keyboard, and a couple of XLR mic inputs.
I have been looking at Echo's new Gina3G; I looks pretty awesome for a good price. Any thoughts on this or any other cards with GSIF 2.0?

What are the problems with RME and Giga?

i'd say this looks like a problem with the installer. usually your first midi device is labeled *midi* in the registry, the next one midi1, up to 10. (this is also a microsoft bug, because from 0 to 10 there are 11 entries and only 10 can be seen). the bug seems to ocurre only, if there is no *numbered* midi entry in the registry, if you already had a key midi1 this doesn't happen here. christian
and remember: a CRAY is the only computer that runs an endless loop in just four hours ...

Has anyone had any experience with the Tascam FW 1884?

I have the us-428. It is not good. It is in the same product line. For that kind of money you could get somthing much better unless you really want the motorized faders. Also the us-428 is actualy showing up in giga 3.0 as GSIF 1.7 what is up with that?

For those looking for something less expensive, my M-Audio 24/96 audiophile is working just fine with GS3, 88KHz, 24bits. Connecting via spdif to another of the same on a second computer. I use sonar 3 PE with Gigastudio.

gugliel, does it allow audio in with GS 3? I think that's the difference between GSIF and GSIF 2.
According to the Tascam site, the Frontier Designs Wavecenters have been updated to GSIF 2, but I haven't seen any drivers floating around yet.

Nick, I received the following from frontierdesign last tuesday in response to my request for gsif2 drivers for the dakota card. Bruce Brody
Hello Bruce, Yes we are. TASCAM has been using/testing it out for a while now in there GigaStudio development machines. Because we are also adding support for 96k sampling rates we have to finish tweaking the ASIO and WDM drivers for it too. We expect to be posting them on our website in the next week or so. Best regards, Brian

Answer to Nick --Audio OUT is working fine, and that's all I use.
Audio capture seems problematic, but since I rarely use it I haven't taken the time to identify the problems and/or fix them. And audio IN is something that I never considered, didn't even know it was possible for gigastudio.

The main reason I'll want to use audio in is to route external signals through GigaPulse.
Thanks Bruce. I'm surprised he can add 96K in software - one would expect it to be a hardware change.

Do any of M-audio's interfaces support GSIF 2? According to Tascam, they do not. Does anyone know?

The new driver for dakota and wavecenter is at:
www.frontierdesign.com/drivers.html
I haven't tried it yet.

It has been rock solid, and the ability to bring audio signal into GS3 via the 1010 for processing with Gigapulse has been very very cool. M-audio has a good track record of providing timely updates to their drivers. I'm happy. -- David
