    Dear Vienna Community

I would like some advice for some problems I am having with a 84VI, 6 Kontakt tracks, large orchestral score using VEPro5 with MIR running on a 12Core 2.66GHz Power Mac, with 48GB of RAM and 500GB SSD and 2 1TB hard disks.  With Logic 9.1.8 using VE Multiport configuration.

My Soundcard is a MOTU 828.

    The problems are as follows:

Sometimes when many tracks are playing together there are crackles in the sound and some sounds seem to cut out.  Also I am am having difficulty with the balance of the different parts.

The causes for these problems might be latency issues, No. of buffers in VEPro5 and number of threads used in VEPro5.

For my system what would you recommend for the number of threads, latency setting in logic and number of buffers in VE5Pro?

Are there any other reasons why I might be experiencing these issues?

For this score I am using 33,822MB of RAM for 394,573 samples.

Also the MAC activity monitor is running at about 25%.

    Thanks for your help.

    Regards

    Mirabile

    Hi mirabile,

As you were addressing the Community and this is indeed a user forum, the best idea if you need a specific answer is to contact us directly at .

Everybody is working in a different way, which makes it impossible to give you a clear answer to your question.

I assume that you tried different Thread settings, and of course also reducing the number of virtual instruments. When do the problems start?

Does it get better if you are NOT using the Multiport Environment (which is not a 100% reliable work-around, as mentioned in the manual)?

Does it get better if you don´t use Kontakt in your template, which libraries are you loading in Kontakt?

Thanks for the additional information, hope my questions also point you in the right direction!

    Paul

  • Hi Mirabile, I've had very similar issues, support suggested separating Play and Kontakt into separate instances but that didn't help me (and it looks like you are only using Kontakt), changing core settings and latency for VEP 5 didn't make a difference either. I get crackles on projects that used to play just fine and instruments drop out when lots of things are playing, again they used to be fine. I think it changed with the recent VEP updates but I can't go back to earlier versions of VEP 5 as then it won't load my recent projects. I use VEP 5 on the same machine. I use separate instances (normally 4) not the multiport. I've had a lots of issues with Hollywood Brass in VEP 5, used to work fine and works fine hosted in Logic 9.1.8 directly. Also some Kontakt libraries have been affected Requiem Pro dropping notes for example when lots of things play, even with note stealing off in Kontakt. When I mute all the other tracks the notes come back. I'm also on a 12 core Mac 2.66 (2010) OSX 10.6.8, 64GB RAM, Esata SSD (for HS) and internal SSDs (one for HB), SSD System drive plus 2x2TB WD and 1TB. Logic on Medium Buffer, 1024 latency. Soundcard MOTO Ultralite . I would be interested to know if you find any possible solutions or optimum settings as we have a very similar set up. I've reinstalled VEP 5, Play and Kontakt, repaired permissions etc. Tried earlier versions of Play from 3.0.32 to 3.0.47 all with the same problems.
