  • Expression maps for VSL SE - Low Winds

Has anyone been able to use these within Cubase? For example for 31S Tuba. There seems to be a mismatch. For example: The VSL SE - Low Winds map file says C#3 Sustain and F3 for Tril1 but all keyswitches in the matrix definitions are from C6 and above when loaded into VI Pro. I've noticed a similar problem for the contrabassoon for example. N.B. I am aware of an ONE octave mismatch between Cubase and VSL (C#1 becomes C#2, etc.) but this is different. Thank you for any help! Tatiana

  • Hello Tatiana!

I guess you are talking about the Remote keys of the Expression maps, right?

The default for the remote keys is C0 (Cubase naming). If you have set the Root note for the Remote keys to C-2, all Remote keys will be two octaves lower. This setting can be made in the Expression Maps Setup menu.

By the way. The Expression Map "VSL SE - Low Winds" doesn't include trills, because there are no trill patches in the Special Edition. I guess you were talking about the Special Edition PLUS Expression map and VI matrix.

  • Hello Andi, I use Special Edition V1-4 with VI Pro (latest version of everything). Cubase is v.7.xx (latest also). What exact Expression map file should I use and what should I load in the VI Pro player? I find the PDF instructions confusing in that regard; should I use Presets or Matrices (I think Matrices)? VI or VI Pro2 matrices? Should I set the Root note for the Remote keys myself or is it defined when I load the expression map? Thanks for clarifying! Best regards, Tatiana

  • Hello Tatiana!

I have seen in our records that you have registered the Special Edition Volumes 1 to 4 AND the Special Edition PLUS Volumes 1 and 2.

The Special Edition PLUS matrices (with a '+' at the end of the name) work with the Special Edition PLUS Expression Maps ('VSL SE+' at the beginning of the name).
The Special Edition matrices (without a '+' at the end of the name) work with the Special Edition Expression Maps ('VSL SE' without a '+' at the beginning of the name).

The VI Pro matrices are structured a bit differently and will not work correctly with Expression Maps.

The Root note is not saved with the Expression Map. So I would set it to C0.

    Best,
    Andi

  • Thanks Andi. Much clearer! Seems to work now with the root note set back to C0 BUT... I still have a problem with the first articulation (default expression map) which is apparently not recognized by VSL. I am making a separate post... Thanks again! Tatiana UPDATE: the culprit is Cubase, not VSL. Still not clear why...
