    My daw(Cubase5/7) is running  on win7 and i plan to build a slave/server with win8 and VE pro(version 4), will that be OK? Or should i go with win7 for my server as well? I'm talking about win8 standart not the pro version. I don't need media player on that pc.

    Here, it works. I can now open files that I did with a previous version of Cubase with Windows8 and Cubase7, and the last version of VEP.

    I think you'll need the Pro version if you plan to Remote Desktop to the slave....
