  • VEP5 + Digital Performer + Event Input plugin = Stuck and missing notes

Hi guys, I've seen this issue around, but couldn't find if there's a solution for it. I'm using VEP5 with DP and taking advantage of the event input plugin option, but I'm having way too many missing and stuck notes which makes it almost impossible to work. Any workarounds or solutions? DP running all plugins and VI in real time (no preen). IAC is not really an option (too much delay). My System: Last versions of VEP & DP 2.8Ghz Intel (8cores) running DP & VEP 2 Mac Mini running VEP. Thanks so much!

  • I think you find this a pretty common experience that still needs worked out (With DP and event input plugs) We have powerhouse rigs and slaves and also find the same stuck/missing notes issue prevalent. Event INput plugin is a genius idea which I hope will be addressed soon.

  • Do you mean there's no solution for this? This is a HUGE issue. Vienna???

  • Hello imzadim,

I have talked to our development team again: It's not trivial to fix, especially because we never was able to reproduce it, even with a large project. The development team will try to fit it in for investigation as soon as possible.

    Best,

  • Hi Paul, Thanks for the quick reply. I'm glad to hear the development team is working on this. I can imagine that this is a hard problem to replicate. Hopefully all the user input from other threads (problem goes away when delay compensation is off, etc.) is helpful an you can find a solution soon. This is a serious issue that can make DP useless for working with big templates. Cheers.

  • Seems to be really big problem out there as I see many people have similar issues. Dunno if it may be any tip but noticed that problem happens whenever I start using Lexicon Reverb plugins. Is it possible it might be plugin related thing?

  • I guess it could be. Haven't been able to rule anything yet. I don't have the Lexicon Reverb, though. Although how knows, there might be several plugins causing this. I heard some people having issues with Altiverb.

Does it start happening when you use those plugins inside DP or in the connected VE Pro instance?

  • For us, we use Lexicons inside DP Karel. (as we reported via our emails back and forth last year on this trouble)

  • I erased all reverbs from my system, but the problem remains. One work around that work 100% of time is turning off delay compensation on DP. This of course create other problems, but it might help you guys to find the culprit. Please let me know if you have questions, etc. and I'll be happy to help you and try ideas on my system as well.

  • I've had the same problem here on DP 8.0.4, did everything the VE PRO manual said and still drops notes like crazy. Sucks because I'm really liking DP and this problem is not apparent in my other DAWs Edit:I'm on windows 8 btw, don't know if this is because its new to the PC Platform?

  • There is a bug with the processLevel flags in the VST hosting of DP8. This can cause streaming issues, especially when bouncing. MOTU knows about it and will soon release an update.

Hopefully this will take care of your issues.

  • Thanks Martin for clearing this up. Let's hope Motu resolves this quickly.

I'm on Mac and have the same problem. I'm only using AU instruments (no VST). Actually, this problem has been on DP since ver 7 when it couldn't run VST.

  • Hey guys, Any progress on this? Thanks

  • Thank You! Hopefully this gets resolved soon.

  • I first experienced this issue when I purchased altiverb. Removed Altiverb from the busses, rebooted and all was well again. Altiverb are working on a fix but its not just altiverb that causes this issue - certain other reverbs do as well, spaces does not....

Magic dave from MOTU did email me and say that the fix was going to be included in dp8.04..... but this doesn't seem to have happened as the issue is still there for me at least. There should be another DP update soon, lets hope its fixed, in the mean time, as long as I'm carefull about what plugins I use in the same project as event input all is well. Not ideal.

  • Just adding my voice to the conversation and confirming that we have the same issue.

After extensive testing we were able to confirm that the stuck midi notes were indeed an issue brought on my certain plugins being anywhere in the signal path with a VEPro instance. Altiverb was one of those. MOTU's proverb and the Waves verbs seem to operate correctly. We tried with both VST and AU getting the same results.

Hoping for a fix on either end to make it work. [:D]

If VSL would like, we have a session that almost 100% of  the time will exhibit stuck notes within a certain 8 bar stretch that we could send.

  • We showed same problem as Stuart with Lexicon PCM bundle. Remove it and all was well. Of course, our engineer said no to the removal of lex and altiverb! :) So we had to axe all event plugins from our templates.

  • Just bumping this topic as it seems a lot of users are experiencing similar issues.  I recently experienced this going to DP8.05.  It hasn't really ever happened to me since this.. I can recall maybe a few times over the last few years that it did.. I blamed it on a possible currupt session as it only did it on a few files over the years..

But just want to throw ou there that this topic hasn't been solved and I would love anyone's findings on how they perhaps solved it.

I do have altiverb so I'll try and see if that is the culprit.  Delay compensation is a must for me.. so the disable trick is not a valid option..

    Cheers!
