  • Possible Bug? Using VEP 5 Sever with External Midi Ports (ipMIDI).

    Hi there,

I'm in the process of integrating a new PC in my studio and ran into problems when using Vienna Ensemble Pro 5's external MIDI ports feature. I intend to route MIDI through ipMIDI (for several reasons this suits my needs better than VEP built-in MIDI) which used to work out pretty well in combination with VEP 5 on an older computer (workload now being taken care of by the new PC).

Unfortunately, for some reason, VEP doesn't receive MIDI at the appropriate port that was used on the sender. What I mean is this: PC1 (Sequencer, Logic Pro 9.1.8) sends MIDI from ipMIDI Port 1 to PC2 (VEP 5 Sever) which doesn't received MIDI at ipMIDI Port 1 BUT at ipMIDI Port 9! So that's what I call weird :-).

I should point out that this only happens when using the VEP Sever application. Everything's fine in VEP non-server. All firewall, etc. turned off - I suppose that there must be some interference in the listing of VEP-midi-ports and external midi ports.

Has anybody experienced similar issues and can help? Would be greatly appreciated!

    Best,

    Hans-Peter

  • Anyone? I'm thinking of buying roompack 2 but not without having those issues resolved first.

  • Hello? Anybody there? Could please any member of the VSL staff quickly respond on that matter. I understand that you guys have been busy lately but I've been kinda waiting for a response for more than a month. Are you aware of this issue?

    Best,

    Hans-Peter

    Hans-Peter,

I'm currently looking into (ao) ipMIDI as part of the general "routing problem / solution(s)".

I am very curious about the "several reasons" you chose to use ipMIDI over the VEP built-in MIDI, can you elaborate a bit on that ?

    thx !

  • When you speak of IPMIDI is it different that the MacOX Network Midi

  • ipMidi is an app from http://www.nerds.de/

Does similar things as OSX's IAC, but is multi-platform (well actually, there's a Mac version and there's another Windows version).

  • I use IAC and it is performing better than VE, no clics and pops

  • Latest version (5.2.12800) fixes the index problem with MIDI inputs in Server.

  • I just found this post ... does this mean, external midi ports are no longer an "experimental feature" in VE pro network mode? I really would like to use the audio over lan-part from VE pro with the ability to route midi from external inputs. Last time I checked, the ports were kind of working, but not reliable.
