  • VE PRO 5 Networking problem

    Hi all,

    Desperate for some help!

I have a new Slave PC that I'm connecting via a Gigabit Switch to my Mac Pro. The network connection does not seem to be working properly as I'm getting a stuttering effect when I load an instrument via VE PRO 5.

To get the network working in the first place I assigned static IP addresses, (10.0.0.5 on the Mac and 10.0.0.6 on the PC), but the strange thing is that when I open an instance of VE server in Logic, it does not automatically 'see' the instance on the PC. However, if I type in the 10.0.0.6 address it connects. This makes me think that my network is not set up correctly, but I have no idea how to troubleshoot / correct that.

The same problem occours when opening in ProTools, so it doesn't appear to be a Logic issue.

Using latest version of all software!

    Mac: 10.7.5 32Gb RAM

    PC: Windows 7 professional i7-4930k 64Gb RAM

    Thanks in advance...

    Evan

  • Are you sure that you're connecting through the correct network, and not over WiFi? Easy to check; just disable any WiFi and you'll see if there is an improvement.

  • Hi DG,

Thanks for the reply. Yep, definitely not connecting over Wifi, it's switched off!

    Any other thoughts?

    Evan

  • Try this :

1st you set "using DHCP", you note down all the figures

Then you set it to manually and you put the figures you have noted

  • I was just going to sugest the same thing. The ip addresses you mention in your first post are certainly not what's commonly used for an internal network.  Would more likely be 192.168.1.xxx.

  • Hi Bill and Cyril,

Thanks for your help. I've done what you suggested, and now the addresses are 169.254.64.208 (on the Mac) and 169.254.122.96 (on the PC). Now the vienna instanaces show up correctly in Vienna Ensemble Server, so that's good! But I'm still getting the stuttering effect when I try and play a note.

Any other thoughts? Thanks again for the help.

  • The first 3 number groups should be the same. i.e. 169.254.64.xxx, assuming you're using the MAC to connect to the internet. Obviously, you're connected ok!

  • Hi Bill, well, the Mac is connected to the internet, but on a separate ethernet output. The PC is connected to the Mac by the gigabit switch, don't know whether that makes any difference. I read somewhere it could be something to do with ports?

  • You do not need the giga switch !

I am French, can you explain :

Cyril, thank you so much! I took out the Gigabit switch and it works! I read somewhere that it was necessary. Thankyou again, and everyone who tried to help.

Stuttering is a fast stop-start effect. In French apparently: bégaient

  • the solution is to put a stone in it's mouth !  [:D]      LOL

    Try this :

In Logic in the environnement you must cable the physical input objects to monitors or to a keyboard, this to avoid to have a midi loop back

Thanks Cyril - no need for this, it worked as soon as removed the gigabit switch!
