  • did new DP 8.05 fix the stuck and missing notes

with the event input plugin problems and VEP? Can anyone confirm? Thanks

  • I actually never had those problems UNTIL I went to DP8.05..  then it happened.  Both recorded midi and while I was playing, midi notes would drop and some would stick and keep ringing.

If I go back to 8.04  (simply toss the application in the trash and install the 8.04 package)  the problem goes away.

Although I have to say, I do have one cue that i'm working on and there are dropped notes (and this is with 8.04)  Seemingly this is just that specific cue.  It only happens maybe every 15 times I playback the cue..

I'll test some more and get back to you..

  • That would be great J111. I appreciate it. Do you use altiverb or Lexcion PCM pugs?

  • So it turns out that I already had altiverb deactivated from my DP plugin list.. so that wasn't the issue.  It caused problems for me in the past that I now remember and I havent used it in some time.

What caused it for me, surprisingly, was I had a Renaissance Axx (waves) plugin on a return audio track that had the dropped notes.  In this case it was a Trilian Bass Guitar.  It dropped random notes (that were already recorded in the sequence) and as soon as I took off the Axx plugin it never happened again.  Also like I said, this only happened in this one session.. I can't reproduce it if I make another session from my template..

Sorry to not be much help. Oh and I don't have PCM Lexicon plugins either..  I have a TC 6K  (outboard)

I've been reading many threads about this both on Motunation and here.. and it seems that the causes and solutions are just all over the place..  Kinda frustrating, since it makes me feel like i'm just Band-aiding my rig right now..

Currently i'm dealing with CPU overloads like crazy in DP8..  I'm on tight TV deadlines so i've just been pushing through, but really I was better off in DP7.24 as far as CPU loads go.  But I hated the whole no latency thing.  DP8 is sample accurate as far as latency, but that pesky CPU meter is freaking out on me..

Maybe this is all connected?  CPU load + DP8 = dropped notes?  I don't think it's a network thing... hmmmm food for thought..  Are you problematic projects really big?  mine are...

  • Thanks for the info J11111. Our template for scoring is around 100 trks to start. Usually we end up printing 60 or so. Lengths of scores varies from short cues to maybe 10-12 minutes. We just ignore the DP CPU meter. It is pretty crazy. We use a little app on all our hosts and slaves called MenuMeter. The metering resides up in the OSX menu bar. It is wonderful. If you open MenuMeters or Activity Monitor (apples) and compare to DP CPU meter, only MenuMeter and activity monitor's meters match. DP's seems very inaccurate.

  • My name is Jon, just so you don't have to write all those 1's haha.. when I made that name I didn't think I'd need the forum stuff.. little did I know.  Now I can't change it!

Also wanted to let you know that I had a day of testing today (slow day) and I can confirm that turning off Automatic Delay Compensation in DP fixes this issue.  Regardless of what plugins I have.  I think that's why DP7.24 worked well, in terms of no dropped notes, because that function didn't work in DP7.  Obviously, it presents the problem of tracks not being sample accurate.  Luckily in my case, the problematic cue was a more legato cue, so timing wasn't as crucial.

Maybe this is something for VSL to look into being the main culprit.  Although not sure if they can help it or if DP is the one that needs to fix it.

My scoring template is rather large.  200+ midi tracks, 100+ Audio returns from VEP.  VEP has 3 instances and 1 "Ghost" (non preserved) instance.  And my template has about 12 Event Inputs going into each of those 3 instances.

I would disregard DP's CPU meter, but when it goes to the red, I hear audio pops.  So it is accurate in showing when pops will come up.  I just raise the buffer and deal with 1024 samples of latency when playing.. it sucks, but it works for now, and I get my cues delivered on time.. which is the ultimate goal.

  • So this issue hasn't been fixed yet? I just updated to the DP 8.05 hoping this last updates fixed the stuck notes, but haven't really tested it yet. BTW This issue was also on DP 7.24 and the workaround was also to turn the delay compensation off.

  • So I just did some testing and the issue is still there. Any updates regarding this fix?

  • Yikes. That is bad news. Karel any thoughts?

  • AFAIK you should be talking to Motu about this.

  • It's not clear who can (and should) fix this issue, so I'm posting in both forums. I know Vienna is aware of this problem, so I'd like to hear if there's any progress with this issue.

  • Hi All,

This has been bugging me as well and after reading everyones post I think I have found a solution that seems to work at least in my studio.

In the Audio Plug-ins preference set the Plug-in real time preference to "Virual Instrumnets in Real-Time"

    I am running a MacBook Pro 2.6ghz Intel i7, 16 Gb RAM with 10.9.5

    Hope this helps.

    Best!
