  • MacBook Pro as a Master??

Hello, I'm in the market for an additional computer for my setup. Since I now require portability, I'm considering a top end MacBook Pro, and using it with VEPro to slave my current PC. Does anyone here use a MacBook as a master? I am primarily MIDI based, and score to picture.....nor sure how well it would perform. Any advice appreciated! Thanks, Wolfie

  • The problem of a Macbook as a master is the size of the screen, so you need to invest in a big screen.

What DAW software do you use ?

  • Thanks. Yes, I already use two screens in my current setup. I will be running Cubase 7 and Logic X.

  • I can only speak of Logic

How are you planning to organize your Logic setup ?

Are you going to put all in VEPRO ? use MIR Pro ?

    ? ???

  • Everything routed through VEPro, slaved from my PC. However, when I'm on the road (using just the MacBook), I'll just load the VI's directly into Logic/Cubase.

  • Logic does not use much power to send midi to your slave.

It is better to you VE Pro instead to use VI in Logic

  • If anyone is curious, the new MacBook Pro is an excellent master computer with VEPro. I went with the 15" retina, 16GB Ram and 512GB Flash. The video handling is excellent running Cubase 7, and I've already completed a major project. My only concern is that it runs very hot, but I raised the back of the laptop about 1/2" which makes a difference (according to Apple it's normal)....but I might buy a chill pad anyways. I'm also running two addtional 24" LED monitors. Great little machine!!
