  • What preload buffer size are you using

    Hello Everybody

Hope you had a nice Xmass

I am starting to have my studio back and I discovered that now you get messages if the memory is starting to get too low.

What are your experiments with the preload buffer Size value in "Directory Manager" ?

VSL can you put the value of the Default Value ?

    Best

    Hi,

    Default is 16384.

If you are using SSD drives, you can go as low as 1536.

Only exception there: Patches that allow you to change the START OFFSET of the loaded articulation, for faster response (see page 47 in VI PRO Manual, Slot Editor => Advanced). The more you cut the attack, the more you also cut from the part of the sample that is loaded into RAM. If you are at the lowest setting for, e.g., Dimension Strings, you might run into troubles there when working with, e.g., the Sequencer Presets.

Personally, I´m using a setting of 3172 for the Dimension Strings, and 1536 for all other collections.

    Best,

    Paul

What about a Raid of SSD ?

I can remember that you have been asking this question in quite some threads already....  like this one, in March 2013.

We are not using SSD RAIDS here.

  • Hi Paul

Thanks for your answer, you have a very good memory ! better than mine !

What I have  notice in the past is that VSL is loading samples sequencialy, one VE after one VE, has that been changed ?

    Not that I know of.

So will this be another question after question thread?

    Paul

  • HI Paul

    Thanks

If that had changed I would need to change my raid 0 for all the VSL lib

Wish you all the best for 2014

    Hello Paul

I would like to ask if this suggested setting is based on 3 Gb/s or 6 Gb/s speed, or it doesn't matter?

Just purchased Dimension Strings and hope I won't go insane while waiting for the download to complete! [:P]

    Cheers

  • Hi Frankie,

If you want to make use of the sequencer phrases a lot, you should always keep a higher pre-load cache for these collections (as the attack for certain notes is changed for tighter performance, which also takes a part of the sample start which is loaded into RAM).

I´d experiment a bit what´s right for your setup.

    Best,

    Paul
