Since yesterday I have been getting a message from eLicenser that "A connection to the license server could not be established, because the server is currently not available."

Anybody else having this problem?

Michael

Hi Michael,

I can confirm this behaviour, it seems like there is some trouble with the eLicenser Server. We have already contacted our colleagues at eLicenser and hope that this problem will be solved soon.

Sorry for the inconvenience, and thanks in advance for your patience!

I'm having this problem as well.
I just acquired the demo to try VEP5 and entered the Activation Code in eLicenser but couldn't activate the demo because the eLicenser server is down :(

I wonder if theres any ETA on the fix.
Because I have a feeling that who ever is responsible for the eLicenser servers are on a vacation,
thus we won't be able to registers via eLicenser until maybe January 2nd next year or later ...

Maybe Vienna should consider switching to iLok.
Because simply Googling, eLicenser server down, brings up lots of search results of the server being down from time to time.
While iLok, I personally haven't had problems with.
And besides USB keys, challenge and response type of activation used by N.I, Spectrasonics also uses online servers,
but haven't had problems with them either. It just seems like eLicenser server issues pop up more frequently to me.

Hi Floren,

Of course it´s always bad timing with such incidents, and the holidays probably don´t make it much easier to fix this, for our colleagues at eLicenser/Steinberg....

We all hope that this will be solved quickly!!

Thanks for your patience,

Paul

PS:

To be fair: Google "iLok Server down".

Thanks for the reply.

The eLicenser server seems to be back online now.
I'm glad it didn't take till next year to fix!

And as for iLok, I'm quite surprised that there a lot of results for it too.
Maybe I was just lucky that I haven't encountered any issues with it yet.

To me I dont really care when these servers go down. It doesnt happen alot, just really annoying. Its just the facts of life as long as there are hackers around doing bad things. But what really does bother me and I didnt know this until I read the insurance thread, is that if this dongle screws up, lost, stolen. then all of my money is gone. If I had known this I would have never purchased a Vienna Product. iLok may go down but they do have Zero Down Time for 30 bucks. Thats priceless to me. I was going to buy Vienna instruments Pro when the server came back online but now that I know that my invested can literaly go in the trash at any time, im not going to buy it. I think steingberg should either invest in the insurance plan or VSL should move to iLok.

Just a couple of corrections:

  1. Your
money isn't lost if the dongle breaks, providing that it is less than 2 years old. The solution is to replace it every couple of years.
  2. iLok
Zero Down Time is just that. It allows you to keep working in an
emergency. However, there are two caveats; firstly you have to have a
spare dongle and secondly there is no guarantee that you will get another, free licence from the developer.

Having said all of that, the new option in the iLok ZDT is very interesting,
but again there are various potential problems, so it is not
necessarily a good solution yet. It is going in the right direction though.

As for VSL going to iLok, I can't see that
happening. In the past it would have pretty much been a disaster for
Mac users, and in any case I would imagine that it would require all the software to be re-written.

Hey, thanks for the info. How is the dongle registered? is it automatic when you use it? I bought 3 from Sweetwater and I dont remember doing that? Do you have a link to where I would have to send it? or the process. I feel left in the dark on this but then again I didnt know this was an issue. The package it came in has no information on it.

Now I know im not going to change any minds here but this is me thinking out loud.

Replacing it every 2 years? at 30 bucks each and the price would go up? thats 45 dollars a year(x3) to have access to a license that I paid alot of money for. Not really a winning proposition. Nor is iLok, 50x3  150+90(for the ZDT) =$240 forever..
and developers wonder why people pirate software. They are pretty much adding on a, "Thanks for being fair and buying our stuff legally" TAX. Not a good way to treat people who are trying to put bread on your table.

Maybe its back to pen and paper and my imagination.

Also, to correct one thing you said regarding iLok..   The new TLC does require a spare iLok MO MONEY they can replace your licenses if your ilok is lost or stolen. An RMA license recovery and replacement fee will apply. of course they dont tell you how much that is. im seriously starting to rethink this endeavor.. hmmm
