  • Pro Tools Track Presets PROBLEM!!!!

Just a bit of info ahead of my long story: I just did a full system restore. Macbook Pro Retina. Pro Tools HD 11.1.2. Latest Version of VEP5 I've built a few pro tools track presets. Each preset consists of about 8 instrument tracks. The first track of each preset has an instance of VEP5 and each of the remaining tracks is routed to a separate VSTi. (The midi out from each Pro Tools track goes to a channel in VEP5, The out put of each VEP5 channel is sent back to the same track.) Every thing works well until I load two different presets. I'm not sure if the problem is in Pro Tools or VEP5. After I load a second plugin, which consists of a different set of VSTs and a different instance of VEP5, the Pro Tools inputs (i.e. Vienna Ensemble Pro out 3/4) go awry. The inputs on the first preset still appear to be routed properly but suddenly receive signal from the corresponding output from the second presets VEP5 instance. For example. If i play a note on track number 10 (remember they're in sets of 8) the sound from that VSTi will com out of both track 10 and track 2. Furthermore, the inputs on the first set cannot simply be set back to the appropriate input. The whole system starts to act crazy. No midi and the wrong signal. This seems to be a new problem, as I don't remember it occurring before I updated to Pro Tools 11.1.2, but I am not 100% positive. Either way I would really appreciate a solution as this is really hampering my workflow. Thanks in advance! PS My pro tools crashes every time I try to quit with VEP in a session!!!! this is also recent.

  • I'm running VEP5 on a couple slave PCs and Protools 10HD on MacPro.  I would recommend ditching the PT instrument tracks and use separate midi tracks, aux and audio tracks, routed accordingly.  Yes, it will use more voices, but it works well.  When I switched over to VEP a few years back, I also tried using instrument tracks, and they were problematic.  Not sure why.

Also, one thing that I have noticed in the past, is that creating a template session with channels setup, and then importing those tracks into PT does not always work as expected - outputs not working properly, not passing audio, passing wrong audio....... this is what would occasionally happen.  Sounds like what you are experiencing in your post, if I'm reading it correctly.  This was discussed on a thread several years back, with both Avid and VSL pointing fingers....  So, I no longer import.  I make a large template that I save, and just use that session as my starting template for larger projects.

    Anyway, that's my 2 cents.

  • Hello budda963,

I have also just replied to your support request by email.

Could you please send us a zipped copy of a (smallish...) PT example session, which shows this behavior, as well as a crash report from the PT crash, to ,  so we can better look into this?

    Best, Marnix
