  • VEP5 Server Audio Outs for sound card

Is VSL planning to ever add audio outs to VEP5 Sever that can be routed to a sound card on the slave machine? Also, another very needed feature would be a option in preferences to filter out unwanted plugins from showing up in the mixer, not unlike Cubase.

  • Hi brynt12_29489,

We have quite some features on our internal wishlist for VE PRO, it has not been decided yet, which ones get the top priority, so I can´t make any promises here.

Thats a good idea about filtering unwanted plug-ins, I´ll add that!

    Best,

    Paul

Unfortunately this is completely impossible, for synchronization reasons.

    Hi bryn12_29489,

you can solve this problem in JackAudio (jackaudio.org) infrastructure at the expense of a resynchronization (except for hardware which includes word clock or some other kind of wired sync). This means a resampling in real time to compensate for the lack of a single master clock. However it is a compromise (although resampling libraries are very good : http://kokkinizita.linuxaudio.org/linuxaudio/zita-resampler/resampler.html).
    For more details: http://trac.jackaudio.org/wiki/WalkThrough/User/NetJack2  or http://trac.jackaudio.org/wiki/  .

    Specifically "Controlling Adaptive Resampling"

In practice, you should have a hybrid configuration . The lowest layer is JackAudio that is connected to the master sound card. However, I must tell you not to expect the same stability and functionality of VSL software!
It is a work in progress (opensource ) but it works.

  • Hi alle,

Thanks for the info on JackAudio. Unfortunatly, after looking at the website it's beyond my ability to understand how it works or even how to install it.

Just to recap, my question about "audio outs" to a sound card on a slave running VEpro is very simple. What I want is the sequencer recall of VEpro server and the audio out of VEpro stand alone, a hybrid of sorts.

The scenario I imaging would be:

Master running Cubase connected via LAN to Slave running VEpro (Hybrid)

VEpro Slave audio outs and Cubase Master audio outs to hardware mixer - ( why is there an issue with the synchronization of audio?)

I adjust the timing of each midi track part in Cubase (I always timing to due to each sample libraries inconsistencies)

In sum, the Slave is just a big sampler but with recall for each song.

    Thanks again,

    Bryn

  • Why don' t you use VE Pro in stand-alone mode then? MIDI In via MOL or something similar, and you're done! :-) The main drawback is that you would have to take care for latency compensation manually, but that's not too hard.

    Hi Bryn,

If you think you can use many audio outputs as the sum of separate unsynchronized audio cards you're wrong, especially with VE PRO5. If you have a few audio outputs on your master sound card then change the master sound card with a more capacious, for example Echo Audio Audiofire12. In this way you will use only ONE sound card (for audio of both the master and the slave) to exit to the hardware mixer...
