  • How many computers can I connect via the vienna server?

I´m running a bit out of capacity, when I want to play a full orchestra. How many external computers can I use to split my libraries technicly?

  • Hi Felix,

We have not reached a limit yet... I know of some guys with 6-8 machines, although in my opinion it makes more sense to get more powerful computers...

  • Cool. Thanks a lot. What are the requirements for 1 (ore more?) machines to run a full orchestra, using MIR + some plugins in the Logic sequenzer?

Could I put all instruments to one external maschine and do the sequencing + non-vsl plugins on a master? Or are normal computers not able to handle this amount of instruments?

    HI Felix,

"Full orchestra" is a different thing for everybody... just like the famous "normal computer" [;)]

So many questions there: how many voices, which software is involved, how many instruments, VI PRO, SSD drives involved....

Here´s a link to some DAW builders... if you are not scared of Windows.... and I´m sure other users will chime in here as well.

    Best,

    Paul

  • True. Thanks for the info.

  • Hi

What is your configuration today ?

Where do you want to go ?

    MacBook Pro M3 MAX 128 GB 8TB - 2 x 48" screen --- Logic Pro --- Mir Pro 3D --- Most of the VI libs, a few Synch... libs --- Quite a few Kontakt libs --- CS80 fanatic
  • These are the Computers, I could use:

    Master (with Logic 9): Mac Pro (OS X 10.6.8), 2 x 2,8 GHz Quad-Core Intel Xeon, 16 GB RAM

Slave 1: Intel Core i7-2600 K CPU @3,40 GHz 3,76 GHz, 16 GB RAM (Window 7 Home Edition)

Slave 2: Intel Pentium Dual CPU E2180 @ 2,00 GHZ, 8 GB RAM (Windows Vista Home)

I´d like to run a hole orchestra + some audiotracks and some 3rd Party PlugIns (Like Ivory, Trillian, Symphonic Choirs). I´m not sure, if it´s a good idea, how I use my instruments, but this could be, what I´m using, when I run a full orchestra. All Viennas are using MiR.

Strings: I sometimes use all patches together (appassionata, orchestra, chamber, solo)

Violins (sometimes I use VI appassionata + 2 VI orchestra + 1 VI chamber + 3 VI solo)

Violas (sometimes I use VA appassionata + 2 VA orchestra + 1 VA chamber + 2 VA solo)

Celli (sometimes I use VC appassionata + 2 VC orchestra + 1 VC chamber + 3 VC solo)

Bassi (sometimes I use KB appassionata + 1 KB orchestra + 1 KB chamber + 1 KB solo)

    Woods: 2 Flutes, 1 Piccolo, 2 EH, 2 OB, 2 Klarinets, 3 Fagotts

    Brass: HO-4 (sometimes together with HO-8), TB-3, TP-3, 1 Trumpet, 2 Horns, 2 Trombones, 2 Tubas

    1-2 Harps

    Some Percussions

Non VI: 1 Trillian Bass, 1 Ivory Piano, (Symphonic Choirs, which I often insert as audio tracks, but of course it would be fine to use them as instruments), Some Stylus Percussions, 1 Kontakt for Pop-Percussions

As I said: It´s probably too much, I use, but it would be interesting, what I need to buy to be able to use all this, without having problems like audio-clicks or missing sounds.
Probably not all of above instruments will play a tutti together, but many of them.

  • Hi

Where do you store your libraries ? on HD ? SSD ? RAID ?
