  • Realtek Digital Output: Couldn´t open the output device

Does anyone have an idea, how I can solve this problem. Vienna Ensemble can´t start my audio device Windows Audio: Realtek Digital Output.

I tried to chose other audio devices, but then I only get output 1-2.

I´m running VE under Windows Vista.

  • That is an onboard sound chip, do yourself a favour and buy an interface and soundcard. The Realtek is not designed for use with a DAW or VEPro.

    Dear Felix,

Jspencer is right - for all VSL software you'll need hardware which supports high-speed ASIO drivers. Ordinary WDM (Windows Driver Model) won't do.

The good news is: Certain free- and shareware-wrappers will add ASIO-support to most built-in audio hardware. The most popular is ASIO4ALL.

This won't magically convert the lowly built-in audio devices into studio-grade gear, but it will at least allow for basic monitoring tasks.

    HTH,
