  • VE Pro 5 Midi Ports limited to 16 in Pro Tools 10

Hi there, quick question about PT and VE Pro. The manual says that every instance of VE Pro 5 has up to 32 midi ports on vst3 and rtas, but I only see 16 midi ports in PT 10. I do see them in VE pro 5 but when I try to assign a midi out in in pt I only see ports 1 to 16. Is there a mistake in the manual or what?

  • Hi Joe,

I´ll check in the manual, but I believe that there is a limitation of 16 MIDI Ports in PT 10, IIRC. Sorry if that information was not in there, specifications are changing all the time with the different DAW´s.

  • To be precise the manual says rtas but what other daw uses rtas? Is the same in pro tools 11? I own both

  • If you can use IAC with PT, there is not this limitation !

  • What’s IAC?

  • Wait I'm on PC

  • Speaking from memory, I think that there was a bug in PT10 that caused the 16 port limitation. As PT11 doesn't use RTAS there may well not be a problem. I suggest that you try it.

  • I don't Know if I wanna move to pt 11 yet, the aax version of ve pro has the same 16 midi ports limitation. Well at least now I know I was not doing something wrong.

Have you tested the 64bit AAX though? You can have PT 10 and 11 installed at the same time, unlike earlier versions, so it is not much of a hassle if you do want to test.

  • Just opened a new session in Pro Tools 11 just to see.  16 Midi ports only.  I guess you could do multiple instances, but VePro works so much better in one instance.

Hopefully this is something that can be updated by Avid?
