  • Procedure for returning e-Licenser without losing Licenses

My Steinberg Key fell apart. (It's now in 2 plastic pieces + a circuit board.)

I only bought it a few months ago, so it will be under warranty, however I suspect it's not a good idea to return it to the retailer with any of my existing licenses loaded onto it.

If anyone has ever had to replace a key, would you please advise me on the appropriate procedure to make sure that I retain any licenses I have on the key so that they can then be loaded onto a replacement key when it arrives. (Or, do I need to have the replacement key first, before returning the old one, in order to transfer licenses?)

I'm new to the way that e-Licensers work, so I'd appreciate any advice.

  • my suggestion would be to get a new key (steinberg eLicenser or ViennaKey), transfer the licenses and then return the key for a replacement (either to your retailer or steinberg) ...

and remember: only a CRAY can run an endless loop in just three seconds.
  • Thanks cm,

That sounds like a reasonable plan. I'll get onto it now.

My understanding is that you can only have the licenses on a single key at any one time (eg. no backup copies etc), and I guess the original creation of the license on the key (performed when you purchase the product) is a one-off procedure, or is very difficult to repeat.

It sounds like transferring from one key to another is the easiest method, but I imagine that in a worst case scenario (eg. if this key was no longer un-readable) then VSL would be able to validate my products and provide me with a new license(s) for a replacement key.

    Cheers

correct ... my suggestion was based on your registered address ... not sure how in detail such a (steinberg key) replacement procedure would be handled in your territory ... instead of being without any license for days (in worst case) the cost of an additional eLicenser seems reasonable ...
