  • Should I worry about my Vienna Keys wearing out?

Sorry if this has been covered before. I searched a bit, and didn't immediately find anything about it...

I've had a number of Vienna Keys since VSL moved to that system of protection, so I've been using them for a number of years. Is there a general life-span for these keys? How long are they supposed to last? I think I have one that might be going a little flaky, but I'm not sure. If I have problems, restarting the computer usually solves the situation (the offending Vienna Key actually has Arturia licenses on it).

Is there any internal battery that wears down in these? If there is, it would be nice to know so I could replace them ahead of the time when they might be expected to fail.

Also, I have all my current licenses spread out over several keys (I used to have a number of racked PCs, but replaced them with 12 core Macs). Are things more stable with fewer keys on the USB bus, or doesn't it matter? My other rationale for having a number of keys is that I won't lose access to everything if one key fails.

Anyway, interested in any thoughts about the aging of these keys. Thanks.

  • Oops. I found some results with "Viennakey" as one word. Looks like it's smart to replace every 2 years to stay under warranty.

With that out of the way...

Any thoughts about having all my VSL license on a single key? (I own pretty much everything VSL has put out.)

And also, is there any advantage to not having licenses from other software companies on the same key with my VSL licenses?

Is there any maximum number of licenses that a key will hold?

Other than not having another UISB port in use, it shouldn't really make any difference performance wise.

Yes, but I don't know what it is. Somewhere over 100, I think.

  • While we're on the topic, does anybody know how to do a mass license transfer?  I recently transfered my licenses to a new key and it was a real pain in the $crotum sack moving them over one license at a time[+o(]

  • Hi,

Mass license transfers are not possible with the eLicenser software, sorry to say.

That´s definitely something that´s been on the wishlist for quite a while, and we also hope that this will be possible in the future.

    Best,

the number of licenses a ViennaKey can hold depends on how old it is ...

the number was somehow low with the 300.000 and 400.000 series, since 600.000 it is about 100 and since 900.000 we have not been able to detect some limit ...

btw: i have some keys from the 300.000 range here still working without any flaw.

and remember: only a CRAY can run an endless loop in just three seconds.
