  • [SOLVED] Vienna MIR Pro As Plugin Beginner ~ How To Add Instruments To The Stage?

Hello, First I am completely new to Vienna MIR Pro. I am an experienced user of Altiverb and have used it for many years but now I want to change to Vienna MIR Pro. I am using Vienna MIR Pro as a plugin with Sonar Producer X3 with audio tracks. Each audio track is either an individual instrument (Flute, Oboe, Bassoon, Trumpet etc) or section instruments (Violins 1, Violins 2 etc). I have installed the trial versions of Vienna MIR Pro and the Vienna Konzerthaus and the VST is loaded into sonar's directory. When I open sonar, Vienna MIR Pro also opens. Next, I load Vienna MIR Pro into the Audio FX bin of each track ... is this correct? If not would someone please help me by explaining what I need to do differently. After loading MIR Pro into each track I don't know what to do to be able to place the instruments on the MIR Pro virtual stage. I've spent hours reading and searching but I just can't find or understand how to do this. Would someone please give me a few detailed steps on how to actually link or place each audio track instrument onto the MIR Pro stage and link it all together so everything actually plays back. I would be really grateful for any help with this. Thank you. Michael

  • Welcome Michael,

thanks for your interest in Vienna MIR Pro.

Have you seen the tutorial videos already? I think that most of your questions should be covered by them:

  • Hello Dietz and thank you for your reply. Yes I had viewed those videos. In the MIR Pro Basics Video, at the beginning it mentions that when and instance of MIR Pro is loaded into an instrument channel, in the background the MIR Pro engine will open and the instrument will be there. When I load an instance of MIR Pro into the FX of an instrument channel, the MIR Pro engine window is open but the instrument does not appear there at all. I realise I am missing something but I can't find what it is.

  • It seems as you're using the plug-in version of MIR Pro. What you refer to is only possible when you use MIR Pro as part of Vienna Ensemble Pro (VE Pro).

Used as a "conventional" plug-in, MIR Pro has no way to interact directly with the host or the assigned instrument. It will simply process whatever audio signal you send ito it! :-)

  • Thank you Dietz. How do I send an audio signal directly to MIR Pro? I have added an instance to each track but I cannot see how to now send that to MIR. Also will I still be able to place my instruments on the stage or is that only possible in VE Pro as well. I am sure that when I find out how to send the audio signal to MIR Pro I will be up and away. Thank you for your help.

  •  Just add the MIR Pro plug-in to a channel of your DAW like you would do with an EQ or a compressor. That's all you need to do.

  • Hello Dietz, Thank you again for your reply; I do appreciate your patience. I was just typing a new message when your reply arrived. I have done exactly as you advised; I have added an instance of MIR Pro to an audio track (Sonar Producer X3) just as I have always done with my previous reverb plug and EQ plugs. I have also followed the 'MIR Pro Plug-In – Preliminary Manual' page 11 - 'How to use the MIR Pro Plugin'. I inserted an instance of MIR to an audio track (the oboe)and the MIR Pro control application started in the background. However, the 'Connecting Button' did not blink then disappear as mentioned in the manual. There is no sound at all in the oboe. I tried clicking on the 'Connecting Button' but nothing happened. I would just add that there is nothing muted or soloed anywhere. I'm sure I'm missing something basic here but I've searched for hours and can't see what it is. I'm very grateful for your help. Michael

  • The reason why Sonar X3 Producer was not connecting to MIR Pro is Zone Alarm. Even when I had closed Zone Alarm the problem remained. I tested other Internet Security programs and Sonar and MIR Pro connected. I am now using Bitdefender with no problems at all. I would like to thank Dietz, Paul and Andreas for their help.
