  • VEPRO5 and parameter automation in LOGIC

Hello I'm in Logic and every instance of VEPRO5 is outside Logic. I don't want creating multiple input ports in Logic. I just want parameter automation for each multi-timbral midi track. Through automation mapping, it works very well! But a manual says "In Logic, you need to use an Event Input plug-in to handle automation or bouncing will result in artifacts!" So I get rid of VEPRO multi output (16xstereo) in insert slot of Logic's channel strip and load Event input plug-in instead. I click 'ASSIGN' and find nothing in CONNECTED SERVER INTERFACES though every instances is still loaded in server outside LOGIC. Am I wrong? Your comments would be appreciated. plus: I read the manual carefully again and found that for using Event input plug-ins, Logic should be in Live mode. So I load Utility I/O and try enable its output. But it's not 1-2 like shown the manual. It's only output 1 (left) AND 2 (right) How should I do?

  • Hello sunnykim,

I have also answered your email to our Support Team.

You need an existing connection of the VE PRO SERVER INTERFACE plug-in with the VE PRO SERVER in order to add an Event Input plug-in to the system (it "hooks" into the existing connection).

The I/O plug-in can be bypassed by clicking the "power" button in the upper left corner of the I/O plug-in window.

  • Thanks a lot paul, There's only one insert slot for soft instrument in Logic. How can I add the event input plug in? For plug effect'slots, it seems to add only Audio input plugin in Logic. One more thing to ask...If I have 500 automation parameter tracks (for volume) in DAW through the way above, how much does it eat up CPU and ram? I am on 2008 octacore macpro with 24g ram and have 2 slave computers. Your comments would be appreciated.

  • Hello sunnykim,

It works like this: VE PRO is inserted as a plug-in (SERVER INTERFACE, connected to the server).

And the the Event/Audio Input plug-ins are added in additional channels.

Regarding automation: It´s "only" MIDI paramater data, shouldn´t affect the CPU much.

  • paul, are you on Logic X? I now know I have to connect to VEPRO INTERFACE SERVER and EVENT INPUT simultaneously. I connect to VEPRO SERVER first and get the sound. Then, there's no additional slot for EVENT INPUT!!!!! I can only VEPRO AUDIO INPUT through Audio FX slot!!! But Both are totally different features. isn't it? Sounds like I'm an idiot. But Could you answer me again in detail? I attached the image file to your email.

  • Hi sunnykim,

    Again, I answered your email.

Event Input plug-ins are inserted as INSTRUMENT plug-ins, one insert for each port you want to open (just like with VE PRO 5 SERVER INTERFACE).

Audio Input plug-in are inserted as FX plug-ins (in an audio track).

  • Now I have 16 multi-timbral tracks with VEPRO Server interface inserted. Does it mean, do I have to create ANOTHER 16 multi-timbral tracks with Event Input plug-in inserted? I didn't know that. Even because the manual doesn't say about it in detail, I was too confused.

  • Hi sunnykim,

That´s exactly how it works. You can insert multiple plug-ins.

  • The number of tracks got doubled. That's not what I actually want. So, do I have to do sequencing on tracks with INPUT plugin inserted, being with other multi-timbral tracks remained nothing (I can hide anyway), correct? Plugins which enable logic be in Live mode should be inserted in which tracks? tracks with INPUT plugin? or Both? Questions are still continued….Thanks paul

  • Hi sunnykim,

No, in fact you only need one regular instrument track, in which you insert the Event Input plug-in connected to your VE Pro 5 instance, and enable "Use for Automation" in it (don´t forget to also insert one activated, but bypassed I/O plug-in!) - this track will handle all your Parameter automation for all the instruments/FX´s you have inserted in the connected VE Pro instance.

Please make sure you have set Sample Accurate Automation to "Off" in Logics Preferences/Audio/General/ and that you have also inserted one activated, but bypassed I/O plug-in in the track, in which you have actually instantiated the VE Pro plug-in to force Logic into Live Mode for all VE Pro related tracks.

The automated Parameters (Source and Destination) can then be selected in VE Pro´s Automation Map for all instantiated instruments/FX`s of a given VE Pro instance.

    Hth...

  • Thanks for your input, Marnix. Yes. I DID have set Sample Accurate Automation to "Off" in Logics Preferences/Audio/General. If I do as you say…..Could you see those images below? Nothing shown in EVENT INPUT. Also it's different from what paul said. I'm really getting tired to make this work. I'm thinking to forget this concept and assign just CC# whatever number to a physical slider for volume automation. Just wanted to see volume in the project window directly through shortcut "A" in Logic. Am I still wrong?

  • Hi sunnykim,

Thanks for the screenshot - I can see in it that not one of the instances in the VE Pro Server on your slave is connected.

As mentioned before: you can only assign the Event Input plug-in to a VE Pro instance, which is actually connected to a Server Interface plug-in in Logic!

  • The thing is How can I Event plug-in connect to the VEPRO server? If you don't mind, could you show me any screenshot?

  • https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/47179867/automation%20problem.mov Could you see the movie file above? Just please copy and paste the address.

  • https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/47179867/automation%20problem2.mov Another video done in the way Paul instructed though I doubt if I'm doing right. Anyway, I can connect the INPUT PLUGIN to the SERVER in this situation.
