I’m continuing this thread as on reflection it was rather
vague and I should flesh it out! I’ve been away from music for quite a while
but I am returning with a vengence. I have been fortunate to have been able to
buy into VSL with the Symphonic Cube Standard Edition together with some Vienna
software eg VEPRO, MIR(+2 RoomPacks) and SUITE, which needs final
authorisation/registration etc. However, this is my present set-up. I am no
techno-wizard by the way. I’m OK when I get to the music! I have no budget in
mind yet until I see what the costs are likely to be which I could
then tailor to suit. I am thinking of loading and running these VSL on SSDs on
a slave PC to keep them separate from other VSTs I have.
My ‘main’ computer PC (it’s a rack system) is Intel Core i7
950-Quad Core 3.06GHz 24GB 1333MHz DDR3 Memory 7200 rpm running Cubase 6.5 with
Win7 x64 bit. I have a number of Kontakt libs (ProjectSam Symphobia 1 & 2,
Orchestral Essentials) and PLAY libs (EWQLSO Platinum Plus, QL Pianos, Gypsy)
and Spitfire Albion 1 & 2. I also run Spectrasonics Omnisphere. Thankfully,
I have no latency or loading problems. Although these libs are spread out over
5 HDs (Platinum+ is over 4 of them with space still to spare), I suspect I will have no room to load all
the VSLs. I could though put MIR and SUITE on the main PC for the non-VSL libs
as well. I have no project templates yet though I have quite a number of single
Cubase tracks waiting to be fleshed out with VSL.
I do hope someone who either has the Cube (or a number of
VSL libs) can help me and suggest what would be adequate system requirements to
run these effectively on a slave? I just want to run the above VSL on it and
nothing else. A custom built company has quoted me inter alia for 4TB, which to
me, as a pure hobbyist, seems rather on the generous side! I might be wrong
but……
Patrick.
